Need Good Thoughts For Our Niece!

So I have met quite a few good people from Pelican despite what my post count says. I also feel like I have gotten to know a lot of you from your posts even though I may have never actually had any conversations with you. My Wife and I just got back last night after spending a week in Phoenix/Gilbert, Arizona because our Niece has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor and had surgery that removed 50% of it. In the last week while hanging out in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit my Wife and I have been exposed to a lot that we knew existed but fortunately have never been a part of. We received a call early last week that our Niece has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and that she is going to be having surgery later in the week. It is amazing how hard it is to hang out with a five year old that appears perfectly healthy knowing that she is going to have major brain surgery in the morning and may not even be able to breath on her own afterword. Fortunately the surgery went relatively well and after some scares Kate has started to move the right side of her body a little, eat, and talk some. Kate is a strong little girl with a lot of support but I am writing this as a solicitation for more good thoughts and prayers. I am not a good enough writer to accurately describe the emotional roller coaster that I have witnessed and been a part of this last week so I won't try, but you can click on this link if you want to read what my Brother in Law and Sister in Law have been writing while going through the most difficult time of their lives: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mcraekate Kate has a very long road ahead of her but until the results of the pathology report are received we will not know exactly what the treatment plan will be. Here is a picture of the little cutey: Again, all positive thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Sincerely, Shawn and Kendra Muscat

To a Child The leaves talked in the twilight, dear; Hearken the tale they told: How in some far-off place and year, Before the world grew old, I was a dreaming forest tree, You were a wild, sweet bird Who sheltered at the heart of me Because the north wind stirred; How, when the chiding gale was still, When peace fell soft on fear, You stayed one golden hour to fill My dream with singing, dear. To-night the self-same songs are sung The first green forest heard; My heart and the gray world grow young— To shelter you, my bird. Sophie Jewett

Everytime I see a post like this my heart just sinks. Kids shouldn't have to deal with this stuff. Prayers sent, we wish her well.

You are doing the right thing being there to support your family. It's obviously the right thing to do, but I bet its really tough for you too. Best of luck with the pathology report. The good news is that being a young kid, her body should be very resilient.

Thank you all for the encouragement and prayers. I think my Wife and I are going to head back to AZ Friday with the kids so that our Daughter and Son can play with Kates older sister and younger brother because I know they are probably still really confused and having some kids the same age there for them may be good for their spirits. We are keeping our fingers crossed that when the pathology report comes back it shows some kind of cancer that responds well to treatment. I hate it when there is something that I can't fix. Here is a photo of Kate from Thursday afternoon with a therapy dog. It was funny because John Mccain stopped by and visited her about 20 minutes after the dog left and he even laughed and said how she didn't care about this old man talking to her and she would rather hang out with the dog. For the first time ever my Wife has started reading a thread on Pelican.
