shot over to bear arms at shea and snobsdale rd and they had some. as i mentioned with op rod springs hitting temps of 500 degrees, i am not screwing around using the wrong grease. this goes to 750 degrees. so i should be fine.
pulled apart my SAI custom shop super duper arrington built match M1-A and had big fun removing gas piston cap off of it. i had used wrong grease last time. and it didnt want to come off with usgi combo tool. got 3/8 box and gave it a whack with my rubber nupla hammer and it broke free. gawd it was dirty in there. 74,000 swabs and a 1/2 gallon of hoppes #9 and its now clean. took green 3m scruffy/scuffy brush to piston and cleaned it to a ANAL LEVEL. blew air in all orfices and let all dry. greased piston cap threads with tetra and all is good. used my usgi drill bits to clean carbon out of cap and piston and crud just came off big time on drills flutes. used brake cleaner also along with #9 and all is HAPPY! and as we all know...............HAPPINESS IS A HAPPY CLEAN M1-A! waiting on extended bolt stop frm smith ent. gonna attempt a lil smithy work next week . but first a decent set of starrret pin punches for driving punch pins thru. the right tool makes all the difference. precision punches not home depot taiwan punches. |
