Sobriety

Well today, the 11th is my 5th anniversary of sobriety. Havn't touched a drop, No AA required, no support group needed, just the memory of a very disappointed little girl and the promise that her daddy would never drink again.
Just thought I would brag a little.
My neighbor wants to celebrate with a kegger.

It is something to be proud of. Most people think addictions are for weak people. As a former druggie and smoker I know the cravings. Don't do either any more. Of course at 57 after heart surgery it is easier to resist than at a younger partying age. Good luck on your future sobriety.

Congratulations!

I have been on and off the wagon for a few months now... amazed at how much better I feel when I am not drinking.

Or maybe I should say how crappy I feel the day after I "splurge".

I think AA is a great system for some people... I'm not using them because I still want the liberty to imbibe now and then. I have managed to string a few weeks together at a time on my own.

I live alone so I have to motivate myself... and the cats don't seem to care if I drink or not... stupid cats!

Good for you! If you haven't found out all ready it's the best decision you will ever make. Keep it going.

Congrats Rick and everyone else here who have kicked the habit! Although I have never had a problem with alcohol, I lost 100 pounds a few years ago. My addiction to food was a very difficult thing to overcome, particularly in social situations, so I can appreciate your struggles and the difficulty of putting aside momentary pleasures for a enhanced, enriched, and greatly lengthened life. Again, good job everyone!!

Michael

Congrats Rick. I've seen others struggle with this and know how hard it is. You have good reason to be very proud.

Since being diagnosed with type 2, drinking didn't makes sense. But then, it never did make sense...but it sure was fun once in a while. Not so fun other times...

My father passed a few years ago. Kicking booze was his most difficult and significant achievement. He was a big time AA guy, went from a newbie in the program to running meetings and mentoring people for many years. I think he had close to 30 years when he died.

Good job and best of luck.

Congrats Rick! Althought I've never had a problem like that, I've known some who had/do. I admire anyone who has the guts, fortitude and just plain will to kick it. Drinking makes up one of those small parts of life that can be lived without.
