Gratz Rick! My daughter was the driving force behind my sobriety. She was 9 years old at the time, now she's 21. I have a 6 year old son that keeps me in line now. Being a good dad is the single most important thing to me. My dad was an example of what I didn't want to be, to include being a drunken monster. I did AA for about the first 5 years. Now I go to pick up my annual coins.

Thanks guys. (and congrads to all those who remind me that 5 years is just the beginning)
BTW that little girl who made me quit is now a full grown Army MP. I recon I had better stick to my agreement with her.

Congrats and a well deserved pat on the back! Keep it going. I've been off the sauce for half my life now. Most likely saved my life, certainly my marriage. I always blamed those terrible hangovers on a bad cigarette. Gave that up as well at the same time. Now just a good Cohiba on very special occasions.

Please take this the right way guys! I respect each one of you.

I stopped drinking for three years. I had been drinking too much for my own liking, so I stopped

My 4 sons and wife begged me to start having a drink or two! Seems I was a very cranky guy

Hi, I'm Jim and I haven't had a drink in 12 hours.. (the three years was solo)

Just thought I would brag a little.
My neighbor wants to celebrate with a kegger. :D

Congrats Rick. My dad did it with AA. He had something like 25 years when he passed away still very involved with the program all that time.

Congrat's, I'll drink to that. Maybe a 7-up or Dr Pepper.

Sobriety? F-that! LOL! It's all about moderation and self control. I mean it seriously. I used to smoke 1.5 - 2 packs A DAY in the military and threw my cigs in the trash THE DAY I got out and never looked back. I've given up on drinking for years and picked it back up once in a while. It's all about 'will' power. Congrats to you and I hope you stick with it. It's easier for some then others..... Now where is that 'bar is open thread'.....

LakeCleElum 07-12-2009 06:29 PM

****** Excellent job Rick. You should be proud.......Myself, I'm approaching 19 hours ******

Buckterrier 07-13-2009 03:32 AM

Congrats Rick. It's two years today for me.

Well done... great news.

Sorry tho that it has to be that way...

There is a huge amount of satisfaction in having a very good wine from time to time with a good meal.. or a very good cocktail....

But go for it.

Seahawk 07-13-2009 04:24 AM

Terrific accomplishment, Rick.

We all have our "issues".

Z-man 07-13-2009 04:49 AM

To all you quitters out there -- I applaud you! Well done!

Oh Haha 07-13-2009 02:25 PM

Just caught this thread.

Great job, Rick!!

I quit smoking cold turkey when we were expecting our first child. I am fortunate that I never a problem being addicted to anything. I enjoy a drink now and again under the right circumstances but there is a good reason I prefer NOT to go out to bars/clubs. Had enough when I played in the band.:D

Grats 2 all. 15 months for me. Its hard to admit that I could not handle my booze anymore but after 35 years of drinking way too much I realized it was time to quit. I feel 15 years younger. Healthier and wealthyer!
