Omega - the car not watch
Omega spy pictures I took near Metro airport on W. I-94 about 6:00 PM, 7/11/2009.
Might be a GM Europe (Opel), with some kind of flex fuel badging rear left (not green or yellow, it's silver). The lighting bolt logo and standard Illinois plates have me quite curious. The handsome couple in their mid to late 20's did not look like the engineers I typicaly see. http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x295/kach22i/Automobile/ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Details explored: Rear Badge. ![]() Roof Riblets. ![]() Whip antenna similar to CTS spy shots I took. ![]() Euro front plate. ![]()

Definitely looks like a last of the line Opel Omega. Nice old barges really and GM Europe's last home built RWD car.

Reminds me of the new pontiac GTO, in that it's nice styling... for 1992.

LOL, I don't think that I've ever seen a car (other than the Catera) that was more offensively blah.

That has some extra nasty rice parts added, definitely not stock.
You can't give these cars away now in the UK, even top spec final edition ones for 2005 are only worth about £3000. The MV6 model was much loved by UK cops. |

Now in 993 land ...

You can get the Catera here in the US for about 3k. Same car than the Omega. I think the car you see in those images is 10+ years old.

Absolutely not.
These are brilliant machines. German made, rear wheel drive, 4 wheel independent suspension, 230hp Ram Air V-6 (that has an awesome ram air "whoosh" sound over 5k rpm, redlining at 7k), 140+ mph top end, full leather appointments, power everything, fantastic Bose premium sound....what's not to like? My Catera was every bit as nice as any comprable year BMW or Mercedes i've ever driven in. I just bought a Saab 900SE Turbo, and i will tell you flat out that the Catera would eat it alive in the twisties, though in the straights the little turbo Saab is much quicker (and quite a lot of fun to drive). The Catera is easily the 2nd best handling car i've ever owned, behind my 928S, and ahead of a lightened and lowered 85 Trans AM that was equipped with the FE4(?) handling package that i once owned. The Catera handles way better than the 95 Turbo Eclipse i had as well. I was simply amazed the first time i threw the Catera into a curve. Let me guess, you've never even driven one, right? These cars are an absolute freakin' steal for the prices you can get them for. Last edited by m21sniper; 07-12-2009 at 03:30 PM.. |

I thought it looked like a Catera, but the badging seemed new, said ecotec or something on the rear left.
What of the whip antenna? Could this be a propane or alternate fuel test mule?

It's not that Cateras weren't nice driving cars. They were just poorly executed and plagued with quality issues. |
