Then and Than
 

Ok, getting annoyed at people who can't distinguish the difference. I'm no wordsmith, but then and than are grammatically different. My nephew sends me text messages using then instead of than and I've corrected him a million times....AARRGGHH
Such as; "I'm more then happy with them" :mad:

Than stop correcting him! :D

It's not worth correcting them because they don't care or pay any attention to detail. Drives me crazy as well. Seems like correction just reinforces the bad behavior.

$20 says he would also use 'another words' instead of the correct phrase.

Do they teach English in school these days?

Granted, from the 5th grade until the 8th grade, I went to a private school because the local public school in Pensacola was REALLY atrocious. But I remember diagramming sentences and we had to know and be able to name each part of a sentence (verbs, adverbs, predicate adjectives, predicate nomnatives, dependent clauses, prepositional phrases, etc....) That's served me well.

Kids don't read much these days and the stuff that they do read is online written by other idiots, so they're clueless.

Check out the movie "Idiocracy". It'll make you laugh and cry.

For all intensive purposes, it sounds like you need to have a "no holes barred" discussion.

Forget points of grammar - we have more folks who cannot even converse in basic English larger than your entire population!

alot more reading and less time on the PC could of prevented these mistakes were seeing. rather then buy you're kid a videogame, get them a book. than their much better off.

That's great the way you manage to convey an idea and provide an example of it at the same time.

I dont correct people but grammer errors really get to me. If english is your first language, at least learn how to use the basics. Then/than, to/too, I/me, effect/affect...

I don't normally correct folks, except for two people that I know well enough to know that they won't be offended and appreciate it, they are welcome to correct me too. What I normally correct for them is not grammar. They both read extensively, so it's usually pronunciation of words that aren't commonly spoken.

My wife's pet peeve is "These ones" or "Those ones". It's simply "these" or "Those".

"These ones" is never correct.

I may not spell them right every time, but I know what word to use. SmileWavy

My dear wife, after 50 years on this planet, still says "suposubly". Sorry if I spelled that wrong. ly.

My old boss used to say: "I pacifically told you..."

I'd say something like: "What does the ocean have to do with it?"

He'd have a blank look.

When my son was 10, he made an opposite (intentional) play on words, calling the Mexican restaurant down the street "Specific Taco" instead of "Pacific Taco".

He still frequently gives me brief flashes of small brilliances.

I got a flyer from a cleaning service today that offered "Free Estaments."

...and not every word that end's with an S has an apostrophe in front of the S.

An apostrophe is a terrible thing to waste.
