Just detailed the plane for Oshkosh.. who's going?
Cleaning the bugs off from under the left wing is the worst... d@mn propwash!
Weather permitting, I am heading out at 5:30 am Saturday morning for Oshkosh in hopes that getting there two days prior to the official start will land me a parking spot at least as far north as the ultralight area. Who else is going? I plan to stay till maybe Wednesday or Thursday. If any of you Pelicans are going look me up and leave a card in my Pacer or PM me your cell if you want. She still cleans up pretty nice. ![]() ![]()

My motorhome had every sticker from '77 on until I retired in '07. I did miss one year. Took a brand new supplemental airline ops crews to OSH in a 'Baby' DC-9.. yes, parked it in the 'classics' section because it was manufactured in 1968. Yes, we slung a tarp over the wing and slept there.

Now that sounds cool.
I've been tagged as a plane hater. Not so. I'm a noise hater. |

I was invited to go about 7 years ago, what a great time.
Although the trip did spoil me, we went in a Citation. It is real hard to get on a commercial plane now. Watching the air show cooking steaks and good drinks.

I have attended for the last 15 years. My employer knows not to even think of asking me to miss it.
![]() Most years, I fly the Pacer and camp with the plane in a tent. I usuallyattend by myself as it is my annual get away. My wife and daughters have gone a few years, but I really like being able to do what I want the entire time without worrying about whether everyone else is having fun. I take my bicycle with me and usually venture into the campgrounds in the evenings to spend time at various friend's more civilized campsites. I got my fill of camping in my youth and later in the Army, but with multiple shower facilities, plenty of food vendors and friends with well stocked beer coolers in the main campground, this is not so bad. ![]() ![]() The return trip home is even kind of fun.... staying just below/outside of Chicago's airspace just off the shore line. ![]()

One of my many Directors of Maintenance' father is one of the VP's of EAA. He shows up in March to start the July/August show there, and he used to get me a spot saved in Paul's forest for my RV. A couple of weeks after the OSH show, he heads to Florida for the Sun 'n Fun and does the same thing.
It has been 8 or 9 years since I have been there, and reaalllly miss it. I had a CD of 'flyovers' recorded out at the runway, and a set up with speakers out flat on the roof of the RV. Every second day or so, I would, from a darkened interior, blast Hoovers' P-51 show passes at 3am, and delight at the people who would come out of tents and campers au naturel', and try to catch a glimpse thru the trees of the big yellow Rockwell P-51. It was like 4 seasons before the neighbors figured it out. So many things there... the fly (flea) mart, the seaplane T&G's, the ultralight areas and flybys. Give us an update if you can! |

Never been able to work it out. It was a dream of mine to fly up there with my grandfather in his V35 Bonanza. Sadly he is almost 80, and though he's too proud to tell us, I suspect he has lost his medical. I WILL go someday.

I have been to Oshkosh for 16 years in a row and unfortunately I'll have to miss it this year due to work. Since I am glad to still have a job it helps with the disappointment.
Flying in to OSH is always of my favorite cross country trips in the old Bonanza. Camping at the airplane (fun) and group showers (yuck).

I just found out that I'll have next weekend off while I'm at Fort McCoy for training............looks like I get to scratch one off my bucket list unless I end up with a _ick-head instructor.

My buddy, Dennis Perduski, will be attending in his Varieze homebuilt N117EZ. Great guy...if you see him introduce yourself.
