He made a nice darkroom in that basement. To make large prints the enlarger head extended into a closet on the next floor up.

He also made his own water tower based HVAC system that could exchange all the air in his house in 10 minutes.

Woohoo. In macon, only 2 more hours of driving...

One time when I was helping shoot and print product photos the sink in the darkroom started leaking. We went to his workshop next to his garage, dug out some rubber sheet, and made a new washer for it.

Think it would have been a lot faster and cheaper to just go to the hardware store and pick one up. Maybe I'm just a little jealous as he could make ANYTHING in his little workshop. He could even melt and pour castings. Pretty amazing as his only machines were a ShopSmith, Drill Press, grinding wheel, and Lathe.

Back before large format inkjet printers like Glen runs He decided getting large prints for trade shows at the other photo lab Glen worked at was too expensive. We built a color print processor to handle prints up to 36 inches wide.

We were expensive because we were good! :)

Back in the days of working at Pro Photo I made a 16x20 color print from a color slide. I used all top notch equipment to make a 4x5 interneg and then the print. I recently found that slide and scanned it on our current scanner at work and made a inkjet print the is clearly superior in every way to the old photographic silver halide print.

Drat, mom has been wanting a better bike, and I just found a nice Giant, at at good price, but the damned thing is in Tulsa, 3.5hrs away.... I was thinking about going to tulsa in a few weeks for a PCA thing, but I highly doubt I can fit a full size MTB in my 944.

yeah, you can. remove the rear wheel, fold the rear seats down. i can fit my 62cm road racing bike in the back of the 951, no problem, and back when i had a mountain bike, i carted it around in the '83.

svandamme 11-24-2011 01:18 PM

you can move just about anything in a 944.
things i've moved per sitting

- fully assembled 911 engine block
- 911 tranny + dissassembled 911 engine block,
- all (!!) the body panels you would find on an early 911, in one go. that includes the hood, front , doors and engine lid.
- The entire entirior of a 3.2 carrera, front seats, backseats, door covering , dashboard.
- etc etc

oh, and my bike with the rear removed like Nynor said
I think i even managed with the rear seats still up, but not sure on that.

I have not seen any other regular car that can take all those things, let alone a sports car of sorts.
Not even a BMW touring or a Volvo V70 estate can take the hood of a 911..
the rear hatch just doesn't allow the width.. a 944 will take it with room to spare.

9x4's are incredibly redneck in that perspective... I might just buy a really trashed (cosmetics) one if i come a cross one for cheaps.. Just to use it as a pickup/hauler/mad max kinda thing.

He was a "very thrifty" man. Didn't like paying for anything he didn't absolutely have to. Even used the back of junk mail and letters people sent him for paper. He made his own Christmas cards for 50 years. The cards were B/W prints, not because it was artistic, neat. or fun, but because it cost less. Guess that justified the darkroom and speed graphics large format camera.

Evening guys...

I left my xbox at my apartment, I now regret that.

Not enough to make the drive to get it though...

Hope you make it through the day, Sid. :(

Rick V 11-24-2011 03:46 PM

Now when you say xbox are you referring to the game system or a female?

porsche4life 11-24-2011 03:47 PM

The day is almost over... ;) Its almost 7pm....

I'll make it through the weekend, I just like to play my xbox on long weekends here. My folks have a nice 42" HDTV. Instead of my crappy 32" tube TV...

porsche4life 11-24-2011 03:47 PM

Game system......

No females in the area this weekend...
