Some of the nicest Porsches started out their new lives as a bucket of crap!

A lot of the cars on the bird, have been brought back to life, from being rusted out heaps of 5hit, so a little mechanical problem and a few missing bits is cool, Rick wont judge you harshly! Its the PO that let it slide.

Let Rick take a look at it before ya put a pigs heart in the thing! Ya want a hybrid buy one!

LOL!!!

There is a 911 out here with a v-8 in the back. Huge POS as far as I am concerned.

hahaha
:eek::eek:

that's okay, he is just offering, and really I think that if he has offered, just do it, and have a look, from what I know of these cars, it could be something really simple, only known by the expert mech; or terminal, but looks simple, again only known by the expert mech!

Hubs is a mechanic but, he typically sticks with domestics, his area of specialty. An engine is an engine but, he's not familiar with the nuances of Porsches.

Guy at work. His son got a nice 944. Didn't check oil, EVER, drove with dash lit red until it stopped and wouldn't go again. Guy grew up with dad owning garage and racing dirt track cars. Asked me about rebuilding the 944 for his son. I asked if he or his dad had ever balanced and blueprinted a chevy, he said no. All the motors he put together never needed that kind of stuff. Told him it's not a chevy and he would be better off taking it to a local porsche shop and letting them rebuild it. Instead he did it himself. I month later the motor cratered. The best description I can come up with is that working on a Porsche motor is like balancing and blueprinting s chevy. The biggest difference the chevy will run without all the balance a blueprint specs, the Porsche won't for long. It's not that Porsche's are that different mechanically or even electrically. It's that they are built to closer tolerances to get more performance and will not last very long if those tolerances are not observed.

On the positive side, a local PCA club member has a 944 that has over 200K on it. It hasn't been problem free, and every time something quits working or breaks he talks about selling it. But the first drive after it is fix he is in love again and talking about keeping it forever.

Janet.... If you dig back on the 944 board, my car was not near as pretty when I bought it... There was about a year when all I did was fix little issue with the motor.... Now it's mostly upgrades and routine stuff. :). They get better, they just need saved from their previous sinful owners. ;)

This thing was a disaster, not running, had sat for years, interior was a disaster. Body isn't terrible. pretty sure there was an electrical fire under the hood at some point.

The interior has been my primary focus for the last month and a half and it's looking 100% better. The body/paint will come last.

The issue is, spending a ton of money on the engine not knowing if its even internally sound. Which if it's anything like the rest of the car, it's not.
