Cell phone off? Where I go camping they don't work anyway. :)

lol

As long as I have got my boys with me, I am happy to turn everything off. But I hate to think if I am not contactable, and they have a accident or something. Its a Mum thing!

Getting away from the kids is the best reason to go camping. :)

In the summer school holidays, my Dad would drop us kids off down there, and go back home for the week to work (about 3-4 hours away), and come back at the weedends. We used to camp on the beach in the old Canvas type 11X11 tent, what a ball, used to light huge bonfires on the beach, and sit around cooking potatoes and apples in the fire, still love those potatoes, throw them in until they get really black and charred, then pull them out, let them cool down and crack them open, they are all fluffy and white and cooked on the inside, yumm.

East coast of Tassie used to be great for star gazing as it has the clearest skies, and as it is right on the Pacific ocean and no real population there was very little ambient light to interupt the stars lights. So we used to lay on the beach and watch the stars, when I was young we used to go down to watch the Appollo rockets and missions go over in the sky! Showing my age eh! There were very few satellites back then. Now you can't camp on the beach, now you can't camp anywhere along the Tassie coastline really, the camping Nartzies (sic) have stopped everyone cause they want you to crowd into their camping areas, so now its better to go up into the highlands and find somewhere to camp near a quiet lake (read black fella billabong) and do some fishin'.

Jeff we used to go up around Lake St Claire as well, went there just before coming over to the US of A. Lovely area, so beautiful,

Sounds pretty awesome. ^^

I sometimes feel frustration at all the urban kids that never get to see the night sky in all its glory. :(

The highlands though, are even better for it than the beach. Less humidity, and higher altitude means less air.

I celebrated Memorial Day early with this event.

Richard Petty & “The King’s Cup” Go-Kart Event Raises $82,000 for Paralyzed Veterans - Paralyzed Veterans of America

I want to do more with them next year if I can. I think what they do trying to get paralyzed vets back into a decent life is great. I was talking to some of the vets, and they said they will try to put on their own team next year with hand controls. That's gonna be awesome. ^^

The group they had do the anthem was spine tingling. No fake crap like the super bowl.

Cool Tervuren, that's what is all about, not the holiday, not the boating, not the camping, its about rememberance, and service, and mateship, and camarardarie, and a caring nation.

we went for a bbq last night, got to meet some more SOMD residents, the Midget got in some target practice with a 44 magnum, he was having a ball.

Had a great time at the crab boil/beach party. The boys had a blast. I stuffed myself silly. Clams, snow crab, shrimp, potatoes, funnel cake, s'mores... They have an awesome backyard with a pool, spa/jacuzzi, outdoor movie screen. We watched beach and surfing movies while we swam in the pool. :) Good times.

They used my surfboard as a prop for pictures they took of guests. Me and the boys doing our "cowabunga" pose. :)

I remember camping like that as a kid. We are really looking forward to our tassie trip.

As y'all know, we love camping and are doing it all the time. Our next long weekend in in a couple of weeks, we'll be camping out in the desert on the sand dunes.

Technology comes with us on our big trips. That way our kids and friends can still see we're alive. :)

Phew, I am all cleaned up and back inside. I went to play in the garage and got sidelined by a few honey doos. A few hours of garden work and I got to go into the garage. I finally got the oil changed on the Elky just 1,000 miles over due. I have changed oil on my cars since I was 16. In all those changes I have never had a oil filter fight me like this one. The entire rubber ring was stuck to the mount. It came off of the filter. I have no idea why. I use NAPA gold which is a Wix filter. I tighten them by hand. I was just a stubborn dang filter.
