I don't recall the name of the place. The place I'm thinking of is on Kanan, just a bit north (towards the Valley) of Mulholland. The parking lot is a bit below grade (of Kanan). There's a deli in there. I think I got a sandwich and a beer there once. Looks like it's always open.

There's also some place around those parts that I've heard of but never been to. They have some sort of weekend brunch, out in the open air, with live jazz playing. Sounded nice and grown up. Probably why I've never been there.

Oh the one with the wine tasting from the various Kanan vineyards? That's at the bottom of the hill on the corner of Sierra Creek and Kanan. If you take the first left after the Rock Store when heading east on Mulholland you will go by it. It's even closer than the Old Place. Never stopped there either but I always go by it on my way to the Store.

I think I'd rather drive on those canyon roads during the week when the traffic is light. As it was, I had to trundle along behind a slower truck for a while before it turned off. Also, there were a fair number of bicyclists out there, but they were thankfully going the other way.

We used to go on weekends, but in the morning. We'd meet up at 7 am, avoid Mulholland as much as possible (just took the canyons off Mul: Encinal, Decker, La Tuna, Stunt/Piuma, Little Sycamore, Mul West, etc). We'd be done by 9 am or so, and hit Supercar Sunday on the way home. That schedule minimized other traffic, cops, motorcycles, and bicyclists.

That would be a tough schedule for me. Just getting there from our house in OC takes a while.

Are there any low water bridges. Those were really fun in the Cayenne this past weekend. Raise up the suspension waiting for the 928's to go slow thru the water, then blast thru making a big splash. On the last one the 928 behind me stayed right on my tail driving in my wake with almost no water left on the bridge to plow thru.

On the Targa California a few years ago it was particularly rainy. We crossed a few of those water bridges on one rural road. I remember thinking (being about the 3rd car in line--just about all of us 911s), "So, are we going to tip toe through this water? Is the first guy gonna test out the depth for us?"

Nope. First car went bombing in. Like at 25 mph. Huge splashes on either side of the car. And we all went through the crossing like we were trying to get up on plane.

What's that gosh awful smell? ...Oh, frozen sparrow farts.

Good Morning folks. I have had enough of the cold weather. I am ready for spring. It was 20 degrees this morning on the commute in. The frozen crap starts tomorrow.

So far just minor amounts are predicted. The first year I moved up to Oklahoma I vividly remember watching the weather forecast and they sad it should S*** with up to one inch accumulation. About the time it was up to an inch they said 1 to 3 inches accumulation, then 3 to 6 inches. The just kept raising the prediction and of course never once said whoops we were wrong it is coming down way faster than we predicted they acted like it was the prediction all along. We had over 8 inches that day. My old 914 got around just fine as long as the ruts were not so deep I was dragging the bottom of the pan. I could see the marks the engine mount bolts left in the snow between the tire marks.

I don't even want to see it happen again. BTDT.

Sorry to hear about the white stuff, Pete, Glen, et al. Today's the day I dread on every trip...the day before leaving SoCal to go to DC. I really want to stay. Really. No kidding. :(

Get back to DC and yer work! No retirement for you (yet)

We currently print and cut by hand the names of our residents (first name last initial) and then place by hand in the current sign. They are arranged by hand alphabetically. We would like to be able to do that electronically since our skilled facility has people coming in and going out pretty much daily and it is a pain to keep the directory up to date. The current sign is about 4'x4'. It is text only and we need to fit about 200 names on it and have them legible.

We have had flurries the last 3 days and they stopped, but the drive to work today was a nice brisk 16*f. No Cobra today.

Weather people are one of the few jobs where you can be wrong a lot and still keep your job.

Yep. That and politicians. Especially the politicians in Washington DC.

I looked at the eInk displays. I can't find any pricing but those seem like a cool option. Should be able to do the fine text like you mentioned. I would check into that first.

Your other option, as mentioned, is an LCD of some sort. Check around, there should be a setup out there for using LCD as a directory.

Thanks. I knew your experience was the big outdoor stuff but figured you knew more about that stuff than me.

Use an LCD TV for the display and run the screen with a cheap computer with HDMI output and a web browser. Have the computer pull the data from some other computer running Filemaker for an easy to update database for the display. You can set up Filemaker to serve the list as a web page and update the display remotely from the serving computer. You could set up any number of displays accessing the same directory database via web browser.

Just a thought.

A Kimray we have several info displays around the campus. They run on a Navori system that serves a video loop. Kind of a hassle to edit the video loops, but they like splashing propaganda all over it. We also have Kiosks all over the place that are used to clock in/out and record job information that displays various .png files for news/info when idol.
