I drove a 914 for over 20 years. I have had my fill of wind noise and sun in my face. 99.999% of the time I drive with the windows up and the sunroof closed. That goes for either of my cars.

Even in situations of perfect weather and slow driving speeds I roll up the windows and use the AC for comfort. I just dislike the open air driving.

morning all.

this thing called Monday came way to early.

porsche4life 03-30-2015 07:00 AM

Uhh... Can't the seats be swapped back in like 2hrs? Not a hard job...

RKDinOKC 03-30-2015 07:05 AM

The rails are not the same. So you would have to find both seats and rails and have the seats reupholstered and the electrics probably fixed. little more than just a couple hours labor. Removing the useless rear seats and putting in bass enclosure and storage also seems to be a no no.

Opinions, effect on prices, and slow sales have killed my desire to modify the center console for a 2din nav stereo instead of the stock 1din.

Amen on that!

Richard, you should sell and get a Panamera. OK, where is that green font icon?

If it were me and you like it and the seats are that good, I would hang onto it. You now have some time to take longer trips and a good seat is a must have.

I like having a sunroof. I hate driving with just windows down so I leave them up and open the sunroof. The only time I like driving with the windows down is either in town or if it is a roadster or convertible. My Coronet I drove around with the top down all the time. The Cobra no longer has a way to attach the top since i never use it but I am thinking of doing a bikini style top for when it rains. Though I have only used the top once in the rain and it doesn't have side windows anyway.

Yes. Epic. Road. Trip. Full Stop.

RKDinOKC 03-30-2015 09:00 AM

Okay, just heard from the guy interested in my car. $70K with oil usage fixed etc., $50K as is. Told him $70K as is and $80K fixed because I was figuring around $5K updating it. He declined.

Jim Richards 03-30-2015 09:01 AM

His loss.

ckelly78z 03-30-2015 09:03 AM

You will regret selling it before you can cruise with all the mods mentioned beforehand. If, after modding the car the way you want it, and driving it for awhile, you still have the hankering to sell and find something different that you don't need to worry about in a parking lot, You can sell then, and probably get a better price and have your pick of what you want......WIN/WIN.

GH85Carrera 03-30-2015 09:03 AM

Yep, that settles it. Fix it, DRIVE the wheels off of it and enjoy it.

RKDinOKC 03-30-2015 09:31 AM

That's the current plan. Bet I could unload it on that guy any time.

The wheels should remain on the car and in contact with the ground. Failure to follow these two simple rules will require more fixing.

flipper35 03-30-2015 09:37 AM

I agree with David. Mom did that once in their Corvair and she did not like it at all.

Though, temporarily removing the wheels from contact with the ground is not so bad as long as it is done in moderation and they remain connected to the car in the proper manner. Extra points if the seat belt retracts so far and tight on landing that the passenger cannot get the release pressed.

GH85Carrera 03-30-2015 09:45 AM

Back in the days when I drove my 1960 VW bug to high school, about 10 years ago, I could make one of the corners and pull a rear tire up every time. That was at 20 MPH.

With my 914 I could pull a front tire up coming into the parking lot at work, run to red line, stand on the brakes and park.

Back when I had summer performance tires I could lift a front tire on the 911. With tread wear 380 tires that I have now there is not enough traction to do that.

And then there is this from about 1979. Those front brakes were really GREAT!

Porsche-poor 03-30-2015 10:04 AM

OK OK! So lets just say most of the wheels should be in contact with the ground or facing the ground. All 4 in the air is ok unless they are facing up. Then it will be certain not to buff out.

RKDinOKC 03-30-2015 10:09 AM

Nope...not gonna do it.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fhM73pxErhI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Drove the wheels off of it he did.

Porsche-poor 03-30-2015 10:11 AM

something tells me the fool switched tires at the track and didn't nut up....

flipper35 03-30-2015 10:50 AM

Or some fools "friends" had access to the lugnuts.

Oh Haha 03-30-2015 11:33 AM

Glen, you seem pretty wise for only being in your 20s. ;)
