evening all,
Miss me? Have been a tad busy raising funds for the Avon 39 Walk in DC, our Team raised over 30 grand. We did the walk over the weekend, I have blisters the size of Texas on my heels, never had a blister before on my feet in my life. Jeezus they suck, didn't even get them on Rookies or Basic Training marches, nothing. But on a wander around DC for 39 miles, well I got them. What's been happening, anybody have a baby, get married etc? |
Welcome back. Not much happening here other than waiting for my appointment with the bonecracker.
I did discover this morning that the IT wallies have blocked pelican forums :( |
Stirling effort with the fundraising btw :)

So you got the blisters kicking ass in DC. Good job. It sounds like you need better shoes. |
Wallies? Did you do know Wallaby milk stops MSRA infections.
Set up a Personal Hot Spot on your phone with phone NOT on the company network, then network your computer to your phone and you are surfing unrestricted again. Not too slow if your phone has a good 4G connection. I manage our company surf nanny. You have to get approval, ie have a reason that pertains to your job, to be able to access the internet at all. This is what comes up when you attempt to access a blocked web site... http://www.zipbang.com/Artwork/surfmonkey.jpg Back in 1991 if you weren't a select executive or IT staff member, there was only one computer available for employees to access the internet with. It was in a public space in the engineering department. |
people around here need to lay off the crack pipe....KBB says this is a 6k car at the very top end

They gots a jammer or sumthin?
One of our executives had us put a mobile hotspot in his company car, As long as his car had cell bars and he was in range of his car wifi, he could access the internets. With an external antenna it even worked inside buildings he was parked outside of. It even had an option to automatically join public wifi networks to save wireless data minutes. |
No reception but more importantly no cameras, so it was easier for the muggles to declare "no phones" when they started fitting cameras in them than to determine if your phone had a camera or not. Been that way ever since.
|
Do you work in a prison, Jeff? :D
|
Sometimes I think I do :D
|
Yeah, it's pretty scary what an individual can do with a smart phone these days.

Inside of our steel building cell reception is bad no none at all with every carrier. Even our customers have to go outside or stand by the front door to make a cell phone call. The building is just acts as Faraday cage. We had to put in a AT&T "M-Cell" to make or receive cell calls at all. It uses our internet connection.
Good Hump day morning folks. Let's see it's Wednesday so it must me thunderstorm Wednesday again. For the last month every Wednesday the forecast is a high chance of heavy thunderstorms, possible hail and watch for super-cell formation and tornadoes. As least it is a Wednesday and not on weekend! The great news is we had 2.25 inches of rain yesterday and more to come. We may fill the lakes up yet. |
morning
I had to visit a DOD contractor site once. The security officer took the work phone and my own. Most of the automotive plants were the same(if you came in through the front door anyway :)). The GM proving grounds was customer of ours and I saw lots of cool cars but was never brave enough to take any pics. |
Third Monday. One more before Friday.

Visited the Apple campus in 93. You couldn't get in the buildings without an RFID id badge. The badge unlocked the doors for areas you had access to, and security could see if/where you are in the buildings.

Years ago Segate Technologies had a research and development plant here in OKC. They hired us to photograph the plant for their big corporate annual report and other advertising. I drew the short straw and was the one to haul a 4x5 Sinar-P and a very heavy tripod into the plant.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430914432.jpg The security guard was paralyzed with confusion. "No cameras were allowed" was his mantra and he had been told to never ever let a camera in. We finally got the Big boss himself to come down to the entrance and tell the guard that we were hired by plant to be there and the guard made the boss sign a waiver of the rules. I was the lucky SOB to clean and wipe the camera and the 90 MM Super Angulon and get all the film holders ready. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430914756.jpg The lens gave me full wide angle view of 90 degrees and with the 4x5 it was super sharp. I had to work my butt off inside the Tyveck monkey suit with a mask and rubber gloves. The clean room had a lot of air moving but I was still sweating like a race horse. I was taking photos of the new secret 2 GB 3.5 inch drive production line. It took me all day to shoot 6 or 7 photos. They were used on the cover and inside of the Segate Annual report. |
