Hola, y'all. I'm getting back into the swing of things here, even recovering from a sinus infection that kicked in on the long flight home. Our landscaping project is coming along nicely, so, in a few weeks, we'll have a pleasant, lower maintenance yard to enjoy.

I've been told by she who is not to be denied that it's time to put up Christmas decorations. Oh joy.

I found a local guy that says he can repair my old speedometer. He is an interesting guy. His store is an instrument cluster repair, computer repair, TV repair and gunsmith.

Porsche-poor 12-05-2016 08:59 AM

If he can't fix it he shoots it.

I repaired the Odometer in the speedometer on my Audi when I was in college. The gear that turned the odometer had cracked and was slipping. It made an annoying ticking noise. It was right after moving in for the semester. It worked out great, met the 4 girls living in an apartment behind the house we were renting. Went there asking if they had any nail polish remover. Besides fixing the gear I had managed to superglue my fingers to the speedometer.

When brother Bob was here over Thanksgiving he ordered and replaced a knob on his dash to control the rear ac/heat. You could still operate it, the knob was just cracked. It cost him $15. He wouldn't even look at his rear brakes that are making a grinding noise. Says he doesn't have the money. New rear pads are $20. New rotors and pads all the way round are $135. Told him the longer he waits the more it is going to cost him. Think there is a reason he doesn't keep a car for very long.

He also gets into accidents. He claims he is a safe driver but riding with him discovered he is one of those people that drives really slow. The only way I got him to speed up is told him I had to take a dump and if he didn't get to the house quick we would be cleaning his passenger seat. He actually drove a little faster than the speed limit instead of well under it. Why would anyone put along at 20 in a 40? Any why would they consider that safe?

That's the other thing. Even though his brakes are making a horrible grinding noise, he insisted on driving when we went somewhere?

Since we have an actual winter here I like to race virtually on the computer. Have the requisite G27 wheel and over Thanksgiving Project Cars was on sale. Everything for just over $20 so I thought what the heck and bought it. It is supposed to be one of the more realistic ones out and they are right. Imagine my surprise when I was trying out the Mustang GT and the darn thing got loose and went into a crowd in the practice session!

GH85Carrera 12-05-2016 10:26 AM

Well, a Mustang will always head for a crowd. It must be the engineering design.

flipper35 12-05-2016 10:43 AM

That's what made me think they went all out on the research. :)

I have to admit I did start laughing pretty hard at the coincidence.

Friend told me about a good race game on the iPhone called Gear Club.
Haven't tried it yet. Won't run on my old iPad and my phone is too full of work stuff.

At full pay at least!

Porsche-poor 12-05-2016 03:44 PM

Kind of. I'm salaried. This is a 10 hour day.

So...Friend of mine's wife wants to sell her 4 yo Avalon and buy my Cayenne S. Her husband has a 2 yo Mazda 3 is NOT a car guy and tells her No because a Cayenne is too expensive for her to do repairs and maintenance.

My S is in really good shape and have gone thru everything. It was well taken care of before I got it, I'm second owner, had local garage go thru it and kept it in top shape. Fixed small oil leak, new brake pads, water pump, replaced intake gaskets, and did an oil change. All total in 3 years ownership I've spent under $1000 total.

I am not pushing it. But. This is the second friend that wanted the car that their spouse decided a Porsche cost too much to repair and maintain. Yet it's okay to buy a new car and pay a lot more in depreciation?

RKDinOKC 12-05-2016 06:18 PM

The friend that wanted to buy my Cayenne for his daughter to drive at school got her a Toyota to make his wife happy. Said he just had to call and tell me the Toyota broke down and left her stranded driving home from Thanksgiving. AND that it's going to be expensive to fix because he had to have it towed to the Toyota dealership where his daughter is going to school. And the daughter had to sit on the side of the road for 2 hours waiting for a tow truck and ride with the tow truck the rest of the way back to school. It was exactly the scenario his wife gave as the reason to NOT buy my Cayenne. Now he's locked in with the loan and repairs so he can't even sell it for enough to get away from it.

Jim Richards 12-05-2016 09:16 PM

Well, at least she's got a much nicer car.. :D

RKDinOKC 12-05-2016 10:11 PM

You haven't seen the Avalon! These friends fill up their cars.

New fart sack, woohoo!

GH85Carrera 12-06-2016 04:22 AM

Good no long Monday, day.

I had a client looking for unicorns or bigfoot I guess. They wanted high resolution stereo coverage of an area outside of Hugo, OK. It is way down in the southeast area of Oklahoma on the edge of the forested area. High resolution stereo is only flown when we have a paying customer order it and since it is expensive they only order a small area. No one in the 70 years our company has existed ever ordered any of the Hugo area. We only have a few flights of that part of the state and all from several thousand feet. I am surprised she did not ask for color while she was at it. I guess it did not hurt for them to dream big. I wish we had it to sell to them.

I was perusing my spam box and I truly giggle out loud.

Most recent spam, asks if my baby formula is too harsh. I don't have the slightest clue about formula harshness and I honestly can't care less.

Another spam was about retirement living. So they figure I am having kids and planning to move to a retirement home. Or maybe they thing I will be drinking the formula in the retirement home!

Porsche-poor 12-06-2016 06:03 AM
