Oh Haha 12-17-2016 05:38 AM

Pfft, some snowstorm.

We got about 3 inches overnight. I've already got the driveway and patio cleaned. I broke my favorite shovel, though. Not to worry, some duct tape and plastic vacuum tube did the trick and it's back in action.

Have a good Saturday, folks!

I don't reckon I'll ever need snow tyres either

Wow, you are warmer than us. The sun is out and it is up to 6. We will not get above freezing until Monday. Gonna be back in the 50s for the high and sunny after that.

Wow, sure glad the smoker roaster grill works in cold weather. Almost makes if feel like summer having fresh hot smoked meats. Slow smoked a steak, oh my. Put it in the smoker with a temp probe. Took it a whole 7 minutes to reach 160 in the middle of the 1-1/2 inch NY Strip. Pulled it out of the smoker and put the grill grate on. Turned the fire up and grilled it for another 2 minutes to get the center up to 160 again adding grill marks, then flipped it and left it another 2 minutes with the lid open to get the grill marks. Plated it, put a slab of butter on it and let it set another 3 minutes covered. Total time was 15 minutes.

It came out just right at medium rare. Another tender, juicy, and delicious grill offering. Had more smokey flavor than I've ever tasted in a cut of meat!

The last post had a pdf of the flyer to sell the Cayenne.

Have started Chip Juice production for the Christmas season!

Sure hope it's appreciated. Added up the receipts this year and ingredients come out to about $10 for a 3 cup container and a bag of Doritos. Ain't nuthin at the store like it though. It's not chunky but it's thick and sticks to the chips. Hence the name Chip Juice.

The first couple of years I put it in mason jars and made labels for it. Chip Juice. Ingredients, Mangos, Apricots, Maters, Onions, Peppas, and stuff. Now I put it in rectangle gladware so you can dip chips easier. And don't bother with labels any more.

Good morning all. It is kinda nippy here as well. The temperature doubled on my trip in according to my in car thermometer. It started at 3 and got up to 6 on the highway just blocks from the office. With luck I will never see the temperature double in 10 minutes ever again. Of course it was in the garage so it took it two miles to get to 3.

I remember one of the really dumb blondes I used to work with was concerned her car would get extra cold from the wind chill of driving on the highway at 70 so she drove city streets at 40. I was so stunned I thought she was kidding at first but she really believed it. I told her that a car or any non living thing was not affected by wind chill. Only a warm blooded animal that has an intrinsic body heat like a human at 98 degrees will see a loss of temperature of wind chill. Sure the radiator works really well in cold temps but the thermostat will keep it at the proper temp. And I am not talking of temps like minus 70. Lots of issues on machines at those extreme temps but they sure don't "feel" it. We don't ever see those temps around here.

Don't feel bad for her Glen. A few years ago we had a huge fire this time of year in a neighboring town where I work and the fire department in the town where I work refused to send any trucks because the tanks would freeze due to the wind chill. I was coding for the local newspaper at the time and told the editor he forgot the "freaking moron" when he mentioned the fire chief. After the story went live there were tons of comments to that effect so I guess the editor didn't have to add that.

Even if it were a non wind chill -50* the 1500 gallon tank wouldn't freeze on the trip down that takes 20 minutes.

flipper35 12-19-2016 05:48 AM

By the way, it was -9* on the way to work and colder yesterday so I put off clearing the little bit of snow we had for today's chore. Should be 15* or so this afternoon and it is only a bit of drifting. 20 minutes work maybe.

RKDinOKC 12-19-2016 05:55 AM

Days like this I'm glad I work from home. And especially that the heater works!

Oh Haha 12-19-2016 07:19 AM

Yup, I do not miss working in this bitter cold. I did it in 2013-14 winter and it sucked all kinds of behind. Being in a semi trailer at 10pm when the actual temp is 0 or below is NOT fun. That was after arriving at the office at 5 am just to try to get the trucks started and warmed up for the drivers.

Every morning was a crapshoot on if the trucks would start. At least right now we don't have a ton of snow.

Hank and I cleaned both bathrooms and his "accident" in the loft. He hasn't had one in quite a while so it surprised me. He went out at 6am but I guess it was too cold to poop.

I have to help at the school today. We are having our 5th graders put on their puppet shows for the 2nd graders.

I left newspapers by the door for a long time. Never scolded for using the paper.

Oh Haha 12-19-2016 09:23 AM

He goes to the garage entry door when he wants out. I probably just missed his cue.

I've been leaving him alone while I leave for less than a couple of hours and he's been really good.

We did put him in his crate while we went for Christmas Saturday but our neighbor came over and let him out a couple of times.

I just came in from practicing on my drums and he's asleep in the recliner, snoring. :D

Found training my dogs to used the bathroom on command very very helpful. Before I have to leave my dog for any length of time, or before I take her with me, just take her out and tell her to "do her stuff." She goes, priase her and she is good to go. Also take her out right after she eats and tell her to "do number 6."

Has gotten to when I ask her if she wants to go for a ride she barks and runs to the back door so she can go do her stuff before we leave.

It's nice not having to worry about that when we go out an about or when I leave her.

Remember going to the Golden Retriever Club's Christmas party one year. Most of them brought their dogs. Every so often they would go out and take their dogs for a small walk to see if they had to go to the bathroom. Man, what a hassle. Just told mine to do her stuff before I left the house and didn't have to worry about her. She was good for the evening.

I'm sitting at my computer and she is curled up right behind me. But she doesn't snore. When I lean back and turn my swivel office chair to go do anything else she is usually up and right beside me before I can get out of the chair.

flipper35 12-19-2016 10:04 AM

Ours are outside most of the time but when it is cold like this they get to come in. They are both good about letting us know when it is time to go and they generally are pretty quick about it so they can come back in. Then they steal each others beds. Of course, if the lab wants hers back she just puts her nose under the bagel and flips him out. He knows it is coming and could get out on his own, but would rather get flipped out and then grumble about it. Sometimes he will come back and try to sit in her "lap". She doesn't appreciate it.

My cousin lives in Bozeman, MT. The lived in Oklahoma all their life but moved up there to be closer to the kids. It was -21 yesterday in Bozeman. Their dog was born and raised in Oklahoma as well. Going outside was a no go for the dog. My cousin said she put out some warmed chicken broth to lure the dog outside. It snarfed the broth and was right snappy at relieving herself. So sniffing around and finding the perfect spot. Right where she was was good enough.

I feel almost adult like for a few minutes. We just got back from my attorney's office. We (my wife and I) now are adults and have wills, power of attorney letters, living wills and advanced directives. We had to initial dozens of places and sign our names many times but it is done. It is good to have that over. I will be back to my 14 year old normal self soon.
