we are do to hit 84 late today and then cool off the rest of the week.
|
80's until Friday, then back to the 90's with it hitting 97 a week from Saturday. Maybe it will rain again so the 4th won't be such a fire hazard.

Last week we got a new roof. I called them only because the soffit on a 10 foot section was wavy from some issue, likely moisture. They said they would fix the soffit and do one other little repair when they did the roof. A week after the roof is done, no soffit repair. I was not overly worried because the roof shingle maker that is paying for the roof replacement is sending the check to me, and I have to sign it over to the roofing company. They came to repair the soffit today and now just a little paint work is left. I am a lousy carpenter and painter. Even worse when working at many feet off of the ground. I ain't gonna do it. That is a job it hire out.

My Dad instilled in me that I may be able to do something, but if I could make more money doing something else than it cost to hire someone to do that something, pay them and do the something else. But if I didn't have something else to do, do ahead and do it, unless it would end up costing me more to do it myself than having someone else do it.
I worked on my cars myself until I got my 914. Most of the time it was cheaper to have the local mom and pop Porsche shop fix it. But there was still a few thing I did myself. Then I got a full size GMC Jimmy and did everything myself including swapping the 305 for a 400. Then I got tired of alway fixing things and got new cars with very few repairs. I traded off the cheaper vehicle for the freedom of fewer repairs. That worked great until I moved to the house I am in now. I got the Porsche bug again. Got a 944TurboS. Tried to do the repairs myself until I discovered I lost the knack for fixing my cars. I was spending a lot more because I would break two to three things getting to the thing that needed repaired so. Started taking it to the shop. Have been taking my cars to a mechanic ever since. |
I started working on my cars for two simple reasons, maybe three.
Number on was I was a broke sucker and had to save every penny I could. Number two, I only had one car. Almost every shop wants you to leave the car with them for more than an oil change. I would have to walk or rent a car to do that, so I just fixed it myself. Three, I saw what some "professional" mechanics charged for repairs and the "repair" work done, and how they treated the car. I can't count how many girlfriend's cars I fixed with simple issues. I did lots of disk brake pad replacements for chicks I was dating. It seemed to me for a while that all women needed brake pads. It was weird. |
Had a Grrrrreat eye doc day.
My normal eye doc and my retina specialist both said I have 20/20 vision in both eyes, wow! Also it has been since February there was enough swelling to warrant a shot in the eye and they are still good. Don't know who were happier, me or the retina doc. On the way home I picked up a Gyro and the guy that owns the local shop (a friend) said his sister-in-law had the same problem. When they did cataract surgery there were complications and she is now blind. She went to another doc and he said they did the cataract surgery too soon, her retinas were still bleeding. That there was nothing they could do now. Yikes. When they started the shots to stop the bleeding I had to sign a form that said there was a 1 in 1000 chance the shots would make me go blind. When I asked the doc what would happen if I didn't try the shots, he said I would go blind. To me it that meant the shots gave me 1000 to 1 chance to NOT go blind. |
Happy hump day.
I have yet another funeral to go to today. The wife of the man that started Ace Aerial Photography in 1947 died. He did several years ago at age. They were a super nice couple and a great boss. In his words he took "early retirement" at age 92 and sold the company to a great guy. Unfortunately he too died and he idiot son took over and the downward spiral started. Actually the idiot firing us was the best thing that ever happened to my business partner and myself. |
Will the new boss let you have time off or do you have to mow the lawn to make up for it?
|
He is not only gonna have to let me have the time off for the funeral but afterwards the three former employees of Ace Aerial are going to a local wings place to toast her and her husband with frosty wheat pop or two. And eat some wings, and we are making the new boss pay for it all! Ha.
That will teach him to make me work late into the evenings, on weekends, and to fly around in a little airplanes. |
you tell him!!!
|
we had yet another engineer quit here at the slave labor pool. We took him out yesterday evening for drinks and nachos. We started a new trend pay for it all with the departing employees company card!
|
Yea, the downside is I will have to put on slacks and a shirt with buttons! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/puke.gif
It is a good thing I am a macho, macho man and tough! And it is just for the afternoon. Something is wrong with the heater outside. It is just 72 degrees and super nice out there. |
you should looking to some pants with zip off legs that look nice, instant shorts.
|
But I wear shorts as soon as it get warm enough in spring to the day when it gets too cold in fall. And I wear slacks once or twice per year. I wear jeans all winter.
I just placed an order on Amazon that is a bit different. I needed a case of oild for the El Camino so 10-30 Brad Penn, a case for the 911, so 20-50 Brad Penn, some Kendall oil for the transmission on the 911, 5 new blades for my edger, a repair kit for the yard hydrant we use to wash cars, some Tums, and a bottle of cologne since my supply is almost gone. I can get the oil locally from a wholesaler but they are 30 miles from my house and a turnpike almost all the way. That is 70 miles of driving and over 10 bucks in tolls round trip. Amazon will deliver it to me for just less. And that wholesaler does not sell the other stuff. ;) Amazon is great. Click a mouse button and wait a few days. |
yep we order a lot from Amazon. have it delivered here to the office and it sure beats shopping for it.
|
We get a fair amount from Amazon as well. Some stuff I like to get local because I want to look at it but the stuff we are familiar with it comes from Amazon.
Cheese curds we get locally always so they are fresh enough to squeak. |
Got the 928 back this morning.
Dropped off the Cayenne. Not only was the a/c not working, it had a message on the dash starting up that said Air-Suspension and Workshop Failure. I knew it had air-suspension, but didn't know about the workshop failure. It also says it's about time for the 150K maintenance. Or at least to have the light turned off. Driving the 928 home...Wow! Between the new 20/20 vision, a new windshield, and a new rear view mirror that don't jiggle, felt like driving a new car. And the AC blows cold too. |
why are you still sitting at home? Get out and drive.........so says the guy at work when its 80 out.
|
Richard, it is convenient that both cars are serviced at the same place. Drive one over and leave it for service and drive off in the one that just fixed. Sounds like a mechanic full employment plan. I am sure they appreciate it. ;)

My brother the Ford SUV driver claims I got the wrong brand cause of the repairs, but he has had jst as many. Maybe it hasn't taken as long but just as many problems and his Fords are a practically brand new.
They just take so long fixing one the other one has stuff that needs addressed by the time I get the first one back. |
