I have never been much of a whiskey or any alcohol drinker other than beer. Back in my single days I tried to have the basics for most peoples tastes to make a few cocktails, and a few different wines. I had a bottle of Crown that I had in the cabinet for over 10 years and it was only 1/3 gone. I ended up having a buddy come over to haul away my stash of booze when I got married. Mrs Carrera does not drink except on rare occasions. It is usually something lite, like a iced tea and vodka or a Tom Collins. I had to buy her just one pint of vodka in the 27 years of marriage. If all the worlds hard liquor vanished overnight I would not notice as long as the supply of beer was plentiful.
And crowns suck, but less than dental implants. Dental implants are insane expensive and hurt more, and take longer. |
I prefer Royal Crown to Crown Royal.
About the only thing I care for with alcohol is a good sangria. We make maybe 2-3 batches per year. The blackberry brandy that goes in it isn't too bad for brandy. |
I actually don’t drink alcohol, but it’s fine for cooking.
|
I don't drink much anymore including beer. Maybe once every 6 months or so.
|
I haven't drank hard liquor since my frat days ;) but really liked beer until several years ago when the doc asked me which I liked more, consuming good stuff like beer or having a heartbeat.
Had to think it over, but I gave up the beer. |
I just talked to my business partner. He is having a LONG day. He got up at 4:00 AM, drove to the International Airport, loaded up in a Southwest Airlines, flew to Denver, rented a car, went to a local airport, rented a 172 and instructor. The 172 is owned by a flight school. The owner does not rent the airplane without an instructor, and it is usually easier for a small project to have a local guy fly the airplane. Anyway, my business partner mounted the camera on the airplane, flew to the site, got it done, and is going back to the car rental place to drop off the car, and head back to the Southwest airlines, homeward bound. Wham, bam, thank ya ma'am, hot damn, lets do it again. As long as the flight back home goes OK, it will have gone off just like planned.

Just getting on-board a southwest airplane makes for a long day.
|
I like Alaska Airlines for domestic travel. Of course, that doesn’t help much in OK. :D

Didn't know what "Throwback Mountain Dew" was, had to bing it.
But I'm not from around here. |
Mertnin...
At a local Latin Grill they have Mexican Coke. It could be called Coke Throwback cause it's made with cane sugar. |
Having problems moving my Zipbang anti-spam.
The new filter is working much better BUT... The old spam filter is so crappy I am getting spam from it and dns does not even point to it. That means the spammers are using the old spam servers as a relay. |
Damn, I don’t drink much, and you guys make me sound like a boozehound.
|
Your Spam filter debacle is just a classic case of a big company buying a superior product, and killing it. The old one from a few months back worked so well, logical and easy. The last one was horrid, and the newest one is better, but still has issues. I keep getting the same spammer sending me crap and I have to go to the quarantine box, and tell the spam filter to block it, and delete it. At least it is not in my inbox, but I don't ever want to see crap from them again.
My business partner got back on the ground and home all on schedule yesterday. For some reason he did not feel like staying up late and processing the project. The lazy bum, 18 hours on the job and he was tired. Two flights on Southwest, renting a car, and returning it, and renting an airplane and flying the project was enough for the day. |
Besides relaying misdirected spam they sent me a bill yesterday for over $400. Was still under 30 day free trial, and even then for the number users is only supposed to be $140 a year!

morning all. I need a vacation from life......yes another vacation. One that doesn't include chores.

For many years in my early single days, after I bought my first house I was spending all my income on the house, and the cost of living there. When it came to vacation time, the boss would just write me the checks for my vacation time, and I kept coming to work. I went several years with no real time off, but Sundays. I shot a wedding almost every Saturday. In the Spring, sometimes two weddings on Saturday. Finally I got ahead of the bills and raised my priced to shoot a wedding to $5,000 for the consultation, and photos were extra. So far no one has wanted to pay that price so I don't shoot wedding anymore. I may have to double my price soon. I really don't want to shoot another one. Looking back, I bought a house too early and at the bargain 12.5% interest rate, the wrong time. It worked out well with lots of hard work, but a single person buying a house is hard. |
That is why vacations are NOT supposed to be staycations. If you stay home, you end up just doing chores.
OKC used to be one of the few cities where a typical mortgage was less than rent for the same size space. Don't know how it stands now. Couple of years ago I looked at the housing market to see if I could down size since living single now. Found there is really not much out there. |
yeah the wife and I are looking forward to a down grade after the kids are done with college. Need a smaller house and wouldn't mind a single story at that.
|
Even back then at 12.5% the houses in OKC are cheap. I was paying as much in rent as my mortgage payment. Pat of my issues was that owning, is more expensive than renting since I had to pay for maintenance and taxes and insurance. My mortgage was 12.5% and the going rate at banks and credit unions was typically 16% to 18% in the Jimmy Carter era. We had a handshake deal, and I was responsible for the insurance and property taxes on my own. And then the utilities, and everything else. With one paycheck, it was hard.
I know I lived on 10 bucks per week for food for over a year. That gets real old. I do not miss that at all. It is much better having money and not worrying about spending. |
