OKC used to be one of the few cities where a typical mortgage was less than rent for the same size space. Don't know how it stands now.

Couple of years ago I looked at the housing market to see if I could down size since living single now. Found there is really not much out there.

I've found that for me, travelling is a chore in itself. Worse than anything I could be tinkering with around the house.

yeah the wife and I are looking forward to a down grade after the kids are done with college. Need a smaller house and wouldn't mind a single story at that.

Our last house (950 sq.ft. Condo) and current house (1600 sq.ft. 1-story ranch) fit our empty-nester lifestyle better than our previous homes. Having one level will be nice as we age.

It’s raining cats and dogs here. Will be wet all day. Thanks Mother Nature!

I love road trips. Air travel sucks.

As a kid we lived in several multistory houses. It was no big deal to run upstairs to fetch something. In San Marcos, TX we lived in an old two story house, with a full walk in attic and two basements. One basement used to be for the coal fired heather, and was mostly dirt. We had fun running from the basement up to the attic, a total of 4 stories. Things are different now.

No way will I ever own a multistory house. I learned whatever "thing" I need is on the other level and I have to go up or down to get it.

Airline travel for sure is horrible now days. Owning an airplane and going at your schedule is better, but we only do that for work.

I enjoy my road trips. I do it at my schedule, when and where I want to go. I am looking forward to trip to Key West Florida this summer. That will be a long road trip. About 1,680 miles each way.

My brother and his wife live in Montgomery, AL and I have a buddy in Big Pine Key that will let me stay the night.

My nephew bought a house right out of college because it was cheaper than renting in the town where he works.

If you aren't in a hurry to get somewhere, road trips are great. If it is a business trip I will fly.

I still can't talk Mrs. Flipper into a Cherokee 6/300 for some reason.

Just stepped in a poodle.

Did it make a squishing noise? We have a break in the rain now. Visibility is about a quarter of a mile. Everyone (me, wife, dog) here is lazy. Nice.

Having a healthy veggie lunch ...... breaded and deep-fried zucchini with ranch dressing.

No one likes flimsy arteries.

Guy at work had 4 kids and was always road trippin from here to Kentucky to visit fambly. Loaded wife and kids in a van and it took 2 days travel each way with a night in a motel. Family hated the travel time. He got a pilots license, instrument rating, and joined a local club. Now he loads the family in the club's Cherokee 6 and it takes a 6 hours travel time. Says it ends up being cheaper even if he adds in his club dues and the flight time to keep his instrument rating.

That's one way of needing a lot less stuff.

RKDinOKC 01-17-2019 12:26 PM

Based on pic's he's posted here, I think Glen probably has a very large one-story, w/ 3-car garage. Room for lots and lots of stuff. As for me, I'm definitely square-footage limited. :)

Jim Richards 01-17-2019 12:29 PM

From this picture, it looks like we're greening up here.

I noticed where I used to live is still not green.

Porsche-poor 01-17-2019 01:18 PM

its 56 out and raining here so it must be the PNW.

Yea, the oversized three car garage with a offset workbench area, bathroom in the garage was my buying point. The heat and air, fridge, scissor lift, work bench and the 220 outlet right there were added later. I can open the HUGE doors of the El Camino all the way, and not hit anything.

My wife said sold when she saw the mater closet which is about the size of my first apartment. You have to walk into a nice size walk in closet and turn left and go another 14 feet to the end.

She started buying antiques to fill up the wall space in the formal dining room, and then fill the antiques with lots of flow-blue, and antique clocks. I get my office, and MY garage. The bathroom is MINE, and I always leave the seat UP, as that is the law out there.

The bosses wife just made me go help he in the back yard to pick up dog poop. It has been three weeks, so we had a half full sack. I named it one representative of the US house.
