Tarde

It is just mid 80s here, but the humidity has to be 110% even though that is impossible. OK it is only 70% but thick. I had to crank up the AC in the garage.
I got the oil changed in the Elky with no drama except dropping the oil filler cap that goes on the valve cover right into the pan of oil. Kersplash, big mess. I got more practice cussing, then cleaned it up. Then I attacked the old edger that was bought in 1986. Dang thing developed a fuel leak after 34 years of use. It is amazing the differences of quality American made stuff from that era compared to the cheap Chinese made stuff of today. There is an actual gas cutoff, that feeds into a water and sand trap, through a filter, to the carb. The old rubber hose was rather hard for some reason. I cleaned out the sand-water filter, replaced the inline filter, and put in a new spark plug. I ended up removing the carb to clean it up, and make sure it was not full of dirt. All was well, so back together. There was a air bubble from opening it up, so I had to fiddle with that, got the gas flowing, and it fired up on the first pull as always. No more leaking gas. That edger has a grease zerk on each wheel, and every moving part. All of em got a shot of grease. It should be good to go for another 30 years. I sure wish modern yard equipment had that attention to serviceability and longevity. My new Honda mower does not have one grease zerk, and has "lifetime" greased wheels and parts. Yea right. Like lifetime transmission fluid in some cars. |
67* here. Mowed the lawn for the first time this year. Changed the oil in the 911. Welded in a patch on the outer rocker on the F-550. Cut some trees that were starting to block the view down next to the garage.
Just picked a tick off my arm as i was typing this. Hate those little bastards. |
It got all dark out, hope it's not more storms!

Stijn!!

The sun went down, that is the reason it is dark. And of course more storms are coming as well, again, still, over and over. |
How are you OK guys doing? I heard your weather was pretty rough last night.
|
Stijn!!
Just fine. The tornado was like a drill press. It just lowered down briefly, in El Reno, drilled right into a hotel drawn there by the mobile home park, and went back up. It would drop down occasionally looking for mobile homes, and lift.
The radar systems the news station has is more advanced than the national severe storms lab in Norman. The stations radar is a dual pole, million watt system that was picking out the rotation, and the debris trail, and wind speed, with precise block by block monitoring. They had about a dozen storm trackers on the ground, tracking and monitoring the movements of both systems. Ed never had a power flicker, and I went back to bed after the storm passed south of us. |
At about 10:30pm one of the stations said a tarnaady warning area with some circulation in the clouds started a mile east of us goin ENE. Don't think if ever dropped any tarnaders. Never heard no sirens. They said it was only strong enough to make F2 tornados and that was weak enough you would be okay if you just stayed in your house, The storm was traveling 45mph, passed, and went up the turnpike towards Tulsa.
The only offical alert on my phone was for flash floods. Don't think either Glen or myself have houses where that would be an issue. It did rain very heavily for about 15 minutes. The raindrop were so huge it sounded like hail but there wasn't any. There was a LOT of thunder and lightening as the front came thru. Pepper currled up under my big heavy desk. |
Got the trunk lid open yesterday. Just took a little more wiggling. Looks like the pin and catch got replaced recently, prolly just needs adjusted.
|
Sid, good work!
Richard, get yer ears cleaned. The sirens were going off. We had tornado warning on our phones and the house alarm system. It was nice to see the tv coverage and where they were. And an F2 would likely tear the crap out of your roof, blow out windows, and make a big mess. If any trees are hit the limbs are missiles blowing out windows. It would not likely kill ya in the safe or center part of the house, but you will be staying somewhere else that night. |
Hey the big bright thing is up in the sky. We get one day of partly cloudy and windy to help dry up thinks a little and the rains come bad tomorrow. I may have to sneak in a mowing this afternoon if the yard is dry enough to not sink in an leave ruts everywhere.
The yard is rather deep now. I am real glad I resisted my wife's urging that I fertilize. |
Did not hear no sirens here, and the back door was open.
|
We could hear them. That one by Braum's is loud, and the one on Eastern even is audible. We can hear them every Saturday when the test them.
The local club has been asking for photos of member's cars so I spent a hour and rounded up 30 photos. I stopped there, it is likely way more than anyone else will submit. I have lots more but I have better was to waste time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1558972271.jpg This was from a trip to Dinosaur Nations park in Utah. Driving on the open range I had to drive through cow crap, and it had rained earlier in the day, so my car was really dirty. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1558972613.jpg This one is not of my car. Sally Carrera made an appearance. |
Brian did call and ask how i made the monthly calendar post cards.

Did not realize it extended into Utah... it's almost all in Colorado. |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1558977824.JPG At the end of the drive is a parking lot, a concrete "outhouse" type of bathroom, bear proof dumpsters, and a one mile hike out away from the road. That canyon above is huge, that is one photo of many I took. On that entire journey we saw one other family group of three people. It was very secluded, and pretty. We did the Colorado side as well, and got to get up close and personal with the fossils. That photo I posted still has the GPS data included. If you want you can find the location. Edit, I got curious. It is all just North of Vernal, UT. Highway 191 goes up into the area, through a state park to a road called Little Valley road. At some point the open range road is a road that goes up into the park. It was a hot day. |
Glen, the tohe USA did not save the British from the Nazis,we had done that long before even Pearl Harbour with no help from the US Your history education is as lacking as is your correct use of the English language. The latter you borrowed from us and corrupted the heck out of . You belatedly came into the war only because the Nazis foolishly declared war on you.The intention was to defeat the Germans and their Axis allies, leave Britain so impoverished via Lease/Lend that our Empire would crumble and you would then make France the principal country in Europe.Oh, and you were rather late into WW1 as well lets not forget.

I have long admired the British, one little country was willing to stand up to the mighty German army and and say stop you bullies, that is not right! They paid mighty for that, and were not doing real well until the Yanks got involved. With many thousands of ships, guns, and bullets and men, the US and a lot of other Allies defeated Germany. We did not do it alone for sure. The Battle of Brittan stopped the Germans in the air, except for V2s. Europe was still occupied. The USA rebuilt Japan and Europe. Maybe not to the British preference. The overwhelming industrial might of the USA was put in high gear. in 1939, total aircraft production for the US military was less than 3,000 planes. By the end of the war, America produced 300,000 planes. We made entire "Liberty Ships" in one DAY! And Europe was not our only war at the time, the Japanese were trying hard to take over the Pacific. |

From the Office of the Historian - US Dep. of State website (won’t let me copy, so it’s a pic): http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1558980787.jpg Edit: An interesting article on this topic: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4757181.stm |
Australia was cut off from the USA by the Japanese.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proposed_Japanese_invasion_of_Australia_during_Wor ld_War_II The Japaneses were indeed a formidable force in the Pacific. It was not just Pear Harbor that was attacked that fateful December day. The Philippines were attacked. It was across the date line so technically it was Dec 8th there. We knew the Japanese were real killers as the killed around 6 million Chinese, Indonesians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Indochinese. We knew they were not squeamish about killing innocents. Any we had to fight them with one hand, while the other hand was tied up in Europe. |
