Go mobile tires, beach blvd, Midway city. It's been a long time and I've slept since then, but I seem to recall the high performance Z cars of the past had huge steam-roller tires in the back with flares. Maybe it helped with lap times but i felt it ruined the good lines of the car. My oldest brother bought a 260Z with part of his bonus money from signing with the braves, he only let me drive it once but I loved that car. I also seem to recall that the driver's seat was the first thing to go with rips and tears. |
Thanks for the info on the mobile tire installer, sammy. My oldest brother used to race either a ‘73 240Z or ‘74 260, I can’t remember which it was, back In the late 1970s-early 1980s.
I had two other 280Zs before my current one. I never tracked them. I. Am. Lame. :( You’re right about the drivers seat. The bolsters are ***** on mine. The seats I’m going to have reupholstered are from an early Miata. They even have speakers housed in the headrests. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/dazzler1.gif |
Hunter has a mobile road force balancer?
|
For my El Camino, most any balancer would be OK if the operator is not an idiot. For the 911, it is super sensitive. Only the RoadForce balancer will do.
I will be ordering a new set of tires for my 911 before my road trip in July. |
Just got my new tires road force balanced last Saturday. Haven't even backed it out of the garage yet.
|
Pete rolling backwards is usually safe even without tires balanced. ;)
Are the roads finally free of frozen crap and salt up there? |
Mornin' all. Typical midwest weather again.
|
Morning all. back to the Seattle office for part of the day.
|
I ordered the tires from tire rack yesterday afternoon.
This morning the installer called and says he has the tires and can come by this afternoon to install them. non-believable. edit: they just called and had a cancellation and moved the install up to 1:30, which is perfect for me. All I gotta do is open the garage door and let them swipe the credit card for $100 when they are done. Back when I was your age we didn't have it so easy. unless they screw up, this has the makings of it's own thread. Can you imagine iffn you bought a part from pelican and then next day a trained mechanik came by the house and installed it for you for not much $$$? |
Sammy, that only worked out because you did not really care if it was done this week, or next. You were not stranded at home with a blown tire or three flats of something weird. Just like shipments from Amazon, if I can't care less if it gets here in a month, it arrives in time warp fast speed. If I am stuck on a project waiting for the shipment, the shipment gets rerouted to several states, and damaged so I have to reorder it, and return the old one. It is just the rules of the Amazon universe.
My first set of tires ever were just under 25 bucks, for a set of 4 mounted and balanced tax and everything. They were 4 recaps for me 1960 VW bug with 36 HP new and likely 25 after 100,000 miles. Top speed was 70 if I had a tail wind. With any headwind, it was hard to go 60. With any incline or hill, it was downshift to third and 35 MPH. |
Woohoo. Figured out how to get filemaker on pc to import csv file update every hour.
Have Windows scheduler open a second filemaker database every hour. Second database runs a script on open that opens (or accesses) regular database. Runs the update script on the regular database. Closes the second filemaker database. Hoop jumping is strong with this one! |

If you look close (or zoom in) you can see a bunch of toad eggs. Lots of eggs. This is a different area of the pond than the other photo I uploaded. |
|
No cane toads here. Just the Bufo Bufo. They liked the name Bufo so much they named it a Bufo Bufo. Same toad high school kids cut up in biology class.

Any tips for getting the frunk lid open on a longhood? Reading a few threads and it sounds like it’s not gunna be fun.

What is a frunk?
The trunk is in the front because the engine is in the back, where the engine belongs. On my 914 I had a trunk front and rear. Would you call the rear trunk a runk? And getting in is a real pain. |
Today is oil change day for the El Camino. With a lift it sure is easier to get that done, and the lube of the grease zerks all over the front suspension and drive shaft. It takes me a tad longer than the quick oil change places, like 3 hours. I always find something else to tinker with "while I am in there" and I and the worlds slowest mechanic. I am really glad I don't do that for a living. I would have to charge Porsche oil change prices for a 5 quart small block change.

A trunk is what you put your clothes and stuff in to take on a steamer. If you put treasure in your trunk it becomes a chest, arrr. Cars have luggage compartments, and you open the bonnet to get into them.
Boxsters have front and rear luggage compartments as well. Sorry, no idea as to how to open the bonnet if the cable is kaput. |
Bonnets are what women wear at Easter time. The silly British call a trunk a bonnet, but they call a fender a wing, and a cigarette a fag, and they can't pronounce aluminum right at all. We had to whip them twice to be free and independent, and then go save them from the Nazis. We have the freedom to call a car trunk a trunk!

Buenos Dias, y'all. And I hope you all have great Memorial Day weekend. It's cool and mostly sunny, here. Maybe it'll rain tonight. It should be nice weather again on Monday. The Missus and I are going to chill out this weekend. Maybe do some grilling. How about you guys?
