The place I'm thinking of moving to is near here, not right on the water but walking distance from it. Close enuff to have a private community boat launch.
So I guess a few months of heat and bugs and breeze won't be all THAT bad.

Prolly hafts stay indoors on the summer weekends to avoid all those obnoxious so cal tourists but the weekdays and the rest of the time won't be crowded.

I don't plan to be in CA till spring and then only for a few days.

sammyg2 10-31-2019 07:03 AM

And they don't have gators or nothing, just the occasional snattle rake or scorpion.
But someone screwed up and let the secret out of the bag.
Lots and lots of socal peoples are moving there, like friggin locusts.
Home prices there are shooting up 10% a year or more. Still less than half of the cost from where i'm at now but geez ...

Starting tomorrow we finally get back the right to carry a gun, concealed or not, no permit needed. Just like Vermont has always had. Just gotta be over 21. Usually the first few days in a state several people will walk around with a gun on their hip, or slung over their shoulder just because they can. Then the novelty wears off, and all goes back to normal. It was always fairly easy to get a permit.

There are a few folks convinced it will be high noon and shootouts in the street. Vermont is the one state that has always let people have the right to carry a gun. Now 16 or so states allow it.

Prolly gonna get me something like this.
All old guys at the Riv have to have one, it's the law I think.

Just like you are! See you are finally a trend setter!

Argh!

We have many clients (in fact most of them) that are surveyors or professional land engineers. We send them the files in one ZIP file and we upload it to our FTP site, and they download the project.

One of the clients is a great guy, but he will download the zip file to his desktop, and them just try to open the multiple DWG and LAS files from inside the zip file. We tell him to please unzip the file to a folder on your hard drive, and THEN open the individual files. ARGH. he just does not get it. For some reason he can't get the files to work right. Argh.

And we just heard back from him. His is a real honest to goodness Professional Land engineer. We sent him a file in Autocad 2018 format. He is still running Autocad 2012.

Oh well, not a major deal to save as a older version. At least he is not running Window XP anymore.

GH85Carrera 10-31-2019 07:46 AM

Over 300 new laws go into effect tomorrow. One of the other ones is we can now use an app on our smart phone to show our drivers license. I am not sure about the security of that, I will have to read more. One of the other laws will finally set up full complaint federal ID. So we can use our DL to get into federal buildings, on a military base, and airline trips.

We will not be mowing anytime soon as we have a nice thick white blanket covering everything. Unusual but not unheard of this early.

There was an idiot in a 1st gen Miata that was lowered and evidently running summer only tires on the road this morning. You could see all the places he spun on the road. He was trying to get to the stop sign by the weigh scales and was spinning the whole time even on the mostly level part. He should not have been on the roads at all if he can’t maintain control on the mostly level parts of the road.

Rain or snow tomorrow. I suppose I need to get the snow blower out of storage.

When you save it backwards did the file get larger, is AutoCAD still ballooning up the files to punish you for not buying the latest and greatest?

Not sure how I feel about that either. So the cop would normally take your lic back to his car to dun it now they will take your phone. I think not. Not that I have anything illegal on my phone but its now open for him or her to snoop.

They said once you have it scanned in the cop can see it, and his computer can access it, and he knows it is you, and of course the insurance and registration pops up as well. The cops like it because it is faster and easier. No need for them to have your phone. No way in hell I am giving any cop or anyone at all but my wife my unlocked phone. My phone is my second brain. It has my entire business and lots of files on it that I don't trust with anyone. Not one thing even shady or illegal, just private information.

Evidently the airport just scans the screen or it communicates like the Apple Pay think. All secure they say. We shall see.

Porsche-poor 10-31-2019 09:35 AM

yeah not going to happen here either. I might hand you my phone to allow you to take a pictures but then I want it right back.

flipper35 10-31-2019 09:38 AM

Anytime the gov't says it is secure...uh huh.

Porsche-poor 10-31-2019 09:41 AM

what you don't trust them...…..me just about as far as I can throw them.

flipper35 10-31-2019 09:49 AM

To be fair, I don't really trust anyone. :)

Porsche-poor 10-31-2019 09:56 AM

me either.
