Well we got about 4 inches of crap yesterday, and more coming this afternoon. I suspect we will soon be out there shoveling off paths for the dogs to get to the grass.

Porsche-poor 02-03-2022 05:52 AM

Morning. What fun snow is always fun.......as long as it is there and not here!!!!!

GH85Carrera 02-03-2022 06:11 AM

Snow should stay up in the mountains where it belongs. It is wonderful to have the snow in the mountains to melt in the summer and provide water for the millions of people smart enough to live in the lowlands.

Porsche-poor 02-03-2022 06:13 AM

yep it should know its place and stay there. I'll go visit it there.

GH85Carrera 02-04-2022 05:15 AM

The damn snow finally stopped falling, and the sky is blue again. We received 3 inches on Wednesday, and 4 yesterday. I shoved my sidewalk that goes from the front door to the mail box and there is no sign of my shoveling work at all.

It is 10 degrees right now, so the melting will not be much for a while. It is supposed to get to almost freezing this afternoon but the sun will help. With all the snow on the ground the temps will be low for a while, but in the 60s by next Wednesday. Melt, melt, melt, melt!

I have not left the property since Monday. My El Camino is nice and clean, but I suspect it will get dirty on the slushy roads if have to leave today.

Porsche-poor 02-04-2022 05:58 AM

Stay home where its safe from dirt and crazy drivers.

flipper35 02-04-2022 06:06 AM

We had a cold spell, but no snow. It was up to -6* when I took the kid to school.

Been working on the Durango. Put a new fender on to replace the rusted out replacement from the deer hit years ago. The guy that prepped and painted it is a friend of the family and said I can fix his computer as a trade. I will still pay him some money for paint as that isn't cheap. Also relaced the intermediate steering shaft. The u-joints are not greasable and were worn out after 20 years and 200k miles. Local place here says they will pay $2k above blue book. We will see. We don't need to sell it but don't need it any longer as my wife inherited the F150 from her brother and it tows fine, no rust and 66k miles and of course the sentimental value.

If I were to replace all the spark plugs at the house I would need 52 if I include the mower and snow blower.

Glen, hope youre morning commute was just as easy as any other day.

GH85Carrera 02-04-2022 06:14 AM

Yep, the commute was unchanged. I remember many snow packed and icy commutes down the local highway at 5 to 10 mph and how much fun they were. Golly I sure miss that.

We normally go out to eat on Friday night. I ain't driving today, so if the boss's wife insists, we can go in her Macan. We are planning on going out after lunch to shovel the 5 acre driveway and parking lot. OK, it ain't really 5 acres, but it seems that way when shoveling. I could park 10 cars in my driveway and parking area if I needed to. Only 4 if they all had to be able to leave without moving a car first.

Last year same time Winding Road in Austin was shut down due to winter weather.
Winding Road was closed again yesterday for winter weather.
San Diego/La Mesa is warming up, maybe that will help melt some of the midwest ice.
Have you ever ran the heater in the morning and the AC in the afternoon on the same day?

GH85Carrera 02-04-2022 06:30 AM

Yea, we have had to go from AC to heat and back to AC in 24 hours many times.

I had the AC on in my El Camino Monday afternoon when it was 71 degrees and I was driving south into the sun. I never just roll down windows.

Back on November 10, 1995. The daily weather records for Oklahoma City tell the story. The high temperature of 83 degrees set the record high for the date, and the daily snowfall of half an inch set the snowfall record. The cold air arrived early that afternoon, dropping temperatures into the upper 20s and turning rain to snow by midnight.

On November 11, 1911 (remembered easily for now as "11/11/11"), the afternoon temperature in Oklahoma City reached a record high for the date of 83, before plunging 66 degrees to a record low of 17 at midnight that evening. Both daily temperature records remain unbroken and untied since 1911. I was not around for that one!

Porsche-poor 02-04-2022 06:57 AM

That is wild weather. No thinks.

pete3799 02-04-2022 09:47 AM

Still snowing here. More than a foot on the ground right now.
I'm guessing 17-18 inches before it quits.

GH85Carrera 02-04-2022 10:45 AM

Pete, you guys in Yankee land are supposed to get lots of snow in the winter!

Are you above or below the winter average for the winter now?

I just spent an hour shoveling and hand plowing my driveway. In some areas I can just push the shovel along and let the crap pile up at the part of the driveway by the compost. The storm started with sleet, then turned to snow and it was windy the entire time. Lots of weird drifts. And even the sleet was blown into drifts. There are areas of the parking area that have an inch of ice, and just a foot away is just an inch of snow. I am loving the sun! It is getting the ice to melt, and I might have a driveway I can get up the hill with the in EL Camino. Not that I am going anywhere today. No doubt all the melting water will freeze again tonight.

It is up to 30 degrees and full sun so that helps a ton. I will go back out in an hour and hit the stubborn icy areas and I bet they come right up.

Golly is sure is fun to shovel snow and ice.

pete3799 02-04-2022 11:39 AM

I would say below average so far.
Just looked it up..... says we are 11 inches below normal for Jan.

flipper35 02-04-2022 11:48 AM

We are below overall here, but it started snowing so who knows.

GH85Carrera 02-04-2022 11:54 AM

We broke our all time records for Wednesday and Thursday for the most snow ever on those days. I just went back out and got some of the ice scraped up. The sun is doing the job of softening it up for me. Maybe tomorrow I will leave the the property. There is no major need for anything. If we had a real need, I could get out, but I prefer to wait a bit longer.

GH85Carrera 02-05-2022 05:22 AM

The weatherman said the snowfall records we broke were from 1913. So 109 years to break the records. With luck we will never break another snowfall record ever again. I doubt we will be that lucky.

flipper35 02-05-2022 08:48 PM

At least the snow doesn't cause floods like heavy rains.

GH85Carrera 02-06-2022 05:48 AM

We have to get really really heavy rains for flooding. We had 12 inches of rain in 24 hours and only some flooding in the low lying areas next to the creeks. We had no problems at all in my part of town. No doubt, flooding is one of the worst killers and damaging weather phenomenon.

GH85Carrera 02-07-2022 05:14 AM

We got to low 50s yesterday. High 50s today is the forecast. The snow is going away fast, yeah!

All that remains is where it drifted to a thick layer or on the north sides of fences and houses where the sun does not get to it.

I did not have to get snow tires!
