Barnes and Noble can bite me. Went into a store a week ago to buy a book. Didn't have it, so I ordered it to be delivered to my house. I was told there was a copy in Texas. Lady on the phone says that there might be one in Texas, but it would be at a store and they don't ship from stores, only their warehouses. The warehouses don't have them and they are trying to find it. Books been paid for, I can't cancel the order and they don't know when I am going to get the book. I was counting on it being here by now. Now I have to order from Amazon, delaying it further. I needed that book now!!!

Noah930 01-13-2011 02:49 PM

What's the book?

slodave 01-13-2011 02:50 PM

Beauty of the Burst. It's about the 58-60 Les Pauls.

I just ordered it from Amazon. Now I paid for it twice. If I really wanted, I could have spent more and had it by tomorrow. Or, if I had just bought it from Amazon last week, I'd have had it already. I'm pissed.

I gave up on B&N a while back when they did a similar thing to me.

Noah930 01-13-2011 02:54 PM

Dave, funny you posted those pics from your plane. I thought of you yesterday. Liz has a patient (older guy, in his 70s) who obviously has cancer. He and his wife own an aerial surveying company. Built it up from the beginning and they did OK for themselves. Then sold the company several years ago. He still owned the planes, though. During the few years he didn't own the company, it got run into the ground. He bought it back a couple years ago and this is the first year he's going to break even. But none of the 4 kids want to take over the company....

So Liz thought of me, and I thought of you. And Grivas.

Which store in TX? Maybe a Pelican (OK, not me--I'm just volunteering others' sevices) can pick it up for you.

slodave 01-13-2011 03:40 PM

Because that would involve shipping charges. Since I ordered it Thursday last week and was expecting to be out of town for two days this week, I decided (at that time) that B&N and Amazon would both arrive around the same time - free regular shipping through both. I could just as easily had Amazon express it to me and get it tomorrow, for a fee. It's not like I will be able to get B&N to reimburse me for the shipping charges - which they should do. They F'd up big time.

still not worth the asking price. :/

porsche4life 01-13-2011 08:42 PM

Thats insane...

slodave 01-13-2011 08:45 PM

Original miles? What do I have? Fake ones?

Schumi 01-13-2011 08:58 PM

I am a few clicks away from 45,000 miles. Time for oil change, new plugs and some other things.

I may do the service myself if I feel like it. Or I might just drop it off at the mechanic's with a blank check. Not sure yet.

porsche4life 01-13-2011 08:59 PM

Must be nice having that kind of change.... :p

livi 01-13-2011 09:54 PM

Morning, guys! Its friday!

slodave 01-13-2011 09:55 PM

Morning, Markus. No it's not.

livi 01-13-2011 09:58 PM

Patience, Dave. You ´mericans will be updated shortly. :D

slodave 01-13-2011 10:02 PM

Markus, was it something in PARF that made you take a sabbatical? I saw your current thread.

livi 01-13-2011 10:21 PM

Not really, Dave. Perhaps I got a bit fed up with the level of abusing language at times, but the reason was more of a personal matter in the "real" world. Last year was very turbulent in several ways, both negative and positive. I have been more or less drained emotionally and very tired.

Things are looking up however. Thanks for asking, Dave.

How is your life in general, then?

slodave 01-13-2011 10:29 PM

I'm glad things are looking up. :) Drive faster. It'll put a smile on your face. I hope your kids are all doing well.

I'm doing well. After a dismal first 6 months with business, the end of the year ended pretty well. Even though I flaked on the last week of the year, I had work, which is good.
