No semiconductors necessary to repair these cars....
|
Morning all. All motivation is gone. Its Monday and raises are posted someone needs to explain cost of living to these idiots when the office has had no rent for two years.
|
I had some bills and checks to mail for the local Porsche club. Normally our postal carrier gets here just after noon. Our mail box is out on the street. I had everything ready to mail by 9:30 AM and the postal carrier had already left the mail.
So off to the mail box at a local strip shopping center a mile away to get them in the mail today. On the way back, I figured a beer stop to stock up the fridge, not immediate consumption was in order. One of the employees there is a owner-manager and seems to be there most of the times. I had not seen him in 6 or 8 weeks. I asked if he was on vacation, and he said yea, he went home. No to his local house, but back home to see his parents and family in Nepal. I asked if all was well and routine polite conversation about families. Then I asked him how long does it take to get there. He said it is 36 hours of travel time total, each way. Planes, trains and automobiles. I then went home in under two minutes. |
For my trip to Pennsylvania in a couple of months, I wanted to get a EZ Pass. Most of the states in that area use the EZ Pass to pay the toll roads, and even parking fees. A lot of states did not sell to out of state customers. Texas does that. I can't buy a Texas turnpike pass, but finally, in recent years my Oklahoma Turnpike system PikePass will work on most Texas and Kansas turnpikes.
Florida had a simple enough system, but it was kinda dumb and could not automatically add more funds. My PikePass is free, and the only cost is to put 40 bucks in an escrow account, and the turnpike fees are withdrawn until it his 20 bucks and then $20 is added. All done automatically. The EZ Pass will cost me a whole dollar per month just for the honor of owning it. I have to use an app on my phone to replenish funds. When I am done with it, I will have to mail it back. The Florida system was a sticker, and I just stuck it on my tool box in the garage as a souvenir when I sut down that account. The Oklahoma system was one of the very first ones, if not the first in the nation to have payment system like that. They went from a large box I had to mount on the windshield, to a smaller box, to a sticker with just a RFID chip. Now they just read the license tag and charge my account. The gret thing is that in Oklahoma I can pass through the turnpike gate at 75 MPH (the legal limit) and not even turn off the cruise control. When we were in NJ and NY last time I borrowed a friend's EZ Pass and we still had to go through the turnpike gates at just a virtual crawl. |
Morning all. We have those here for the toll roads and lexis lanes. I have one I need to put in the new car.

When I went over the George Washington Bridge into downtown Manhattan it was truly bumper to bumper traffic at a crawl speed. Paul, AKA Seahawk let me use his EZ Pass, and I just mailed it back to him when were were on the way home with some cash for the fees. Anyway, the violation sign lit up as I went through. I had the pass on my dash and we had come to a stop, so I have no idea what went wrong. There is not front tag on my car, and a picture of my wife and I in a 911 was not enough to send me ticket I guess. There was a 18 wheeler just inches behind me so no way they got a photo of my tag. That jerk semi driver was scary close to my car. I could not go faster without running into the car in front of me. I never did get a ticket, and I don't feel guilty as I had a legit pass that had worked on other toll roads.
The weird part was 30 minutes after getting off the bridge in the middle of Manhattan, we were in the countryside of Connecticut. Such a change in view. |
Wow pretty weather again. It is 73 degrees and almost no wind.
|
we had lots of wind yesterday not a thing today.
|
It was WINDY last night. And all day today.
I got registered for Parade. The web page was reasonably fast. Maybe they finally got that fixed. |
My personalized tag for the 911 was due at the end of the month. In the past I had to renew both the personalized tag, and then the "real" tag. Now the old tag is discarded, and only the personalized tag can be registered to the car. The regular tag was not due until fall, so they prorated the tag renewal until that date, so I will not need to do it again for over a year, but I had to pay 45 bucks. That is the most I have paid for a tag in 15 years or more. Ah well, just the one tag is easier for everyone involved.

Morning all. off to the salt mines.
|
We have another windy day. Today Arkansas is really sucking. 50 MPH gusts. Tomorrow it finally blows past us and it will be nice. It is always weird to me that the air in the atmosphere does not just get to where it needs to be to even the pressures out and stop the winds. I guess the uneven heating of the atmosphere is a bit complex to model.

I keep getting spam email from McAfee stating my subscription is expired. I would guess so, as I have not used McAfee since the days of Win 95. I got another spam claiming they can raise my credit rating 100 points if I send them money. I would bet large sums of money they can't as my credit is spectacular.

Morning. Yesterday it was almost 80. Today 20 degrees cooler and rain. Thanks God I'll be stuck inside all day again today.

A week ago the pool was 73.
Last week, cleaned the DE filter, set the roof solar pool heater to 90 and put on the pool solar cover. Now the pool is 90 and we are swimming on 4/7. We are in a 2 day heat wave mid 90s, first perfect pool weather of the year.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...sun_smiley.gif Backyard is perfect so it's back to race cars next week. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649428264.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649428277.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649428309.jpg |
We have one more day of windy crap, and then a wonderful weekend. I get to mow the yard today so I can have the weekend to play.
We have a project to fly and my business partner is up flying it now. He can text with me using the dictate to text capabilities of his phone. We sometimes use language with each other that would get a trip to the HR department at many companies. As he is bouncing around in the airplane like a bull ride he sometimes uses extra colorful exclamations of unhappiness. Of course we like trips to our HR department as it has free beer and nachos, and a big screen TV with the F1 practice on. |
Ted, I think you are missing a part or two in that pic! :)
Windy and snow, rain, sunshine here. Like having all four seasons this week. We have to drive to Des Moines Tuesday to pick my MiL up to come for Easter. |
Finally some nice weather, and nicer than recent temps in San Diego! 98 is too hot for this time of year, Ted. I guess it is back to normal soon for you. We have a high of 78 or 80 and a bit breezy. Loving it. Tomorrow is the autocross and that is always fun.
We had the PCA club breakfast today. One of the guys I sat next to is Bob, and he has THE oldest Porsche sold in North America new. It is a 52 Cabriolet. There will be an article on it soon in Excellence. |
morning all. Nice low key weekend. Parts South of here got snow. So far non here.
|
The autocross was WINDY! It was not a problem inside the car, but it made it hard to talk or walk around. There were times the wind was blowing and we all lean into the wind, and the the wind would stop for a second, and we all almost fall down. It takes a fast step to stay upright. It was nice and warm at least. We had a Aston Martin Vantage V12 with the tag of Skyfall. Really pretty car, that sound like a F1 car of old.
And a 2021 911 Turbo S. It just leapt of the start line. Another guy had a 2018 911 Turbo with lots of add on parts and a claimed 850 HP and a 9.8 second 1/4 mile time. Another guy had a gorgeous 69 Camaro SS that was all restomodded. He won the one of the Goodguys contest where they run several drag strips, and then drive to another one and do another drag race, and a road race track. He had a LS7 with 770 HP claimed. The paint job alone was 30 grand. For a change I did not have the oldest car there. One guy brought his wife, and they both ran "her car" a 1972 Datsun 210. It was as stock as the Camaro. Well not quite. It too had all new suspension, brakes, and a engine from a 240 Z. He did all the work himself and it was nice. Not show car perfect 100 points but dang nice. I asked how many of the kids today even know what it is. He laughed and said one teenager came over to him at a gas station and asked if it was a Shelby. Carol Shelby likely rolled over in his grave with that comment. |
