Yep, bureaucracy in action. Make a rule or law that is enforced with a big stick, and it is just a total waste of time and money. If the FAA did a "ramp check" to make sure we were complaint with proper log books, and proper functioning equipment, all up to date and paperwork proper that could ground the airplane on the spot, and make it just a hangar decoration. I have no idea how they could possible tell when the card was issued.

Of course we never keep the full log books in the airplane. In my mind as a non pilot I figured the log book was a single little volume with all the maintenance listed and the mechanics stamps on it. Our log books are two large boxes of notebooks with insane levels of documentation of every single thing done to the aircraft short of how much it cost to fuel it up after each flight. It does of course have the flight hours of every single mission, and the maintenance done, and who did the maintenance. All of that is logical.

Ramp check? Are you kidding me? I'm not leaving my a/c controlled office just keep it in the plane. Oh and here is another copy,

I don't hang out at the pilots lounge often, as a non pilot. I have been with my business partner several times waiting for the clouds to clear before we can do a photo mission.

More than a few of the old timers have been ramp checked. The FAA does have a few inspectors at the busier civil aviation airports. Evidently Wiley Post airport has had a few inspectors that love to play Barney Fife.

No doubt there are some sketchy aircraft in the skies, and the inspectors catch a few. It is just a pain for the ones trying to make a living, and following all the rules.

At our old job when we were working for a company, the company owned a 1965 Cessna 206 that was factory delivered as a photo ship with a 22 inch hole in the floor. The aircraft had insane flight hours on it, and it was on the 15th engine when we put on the 16th. It sometime flew 8 hours a day for weeks at a time.

It was some sort of ugly, faded paint, worn out seats, and sun cracked interior. Mechanically it was 100% solid. It was ramp checked back in the 1980s. They inspector just kept trying to find an issue, and in the end he had to admit it was all legal.

One story from one of the former photo mission pilots was kinda funny. Back when the first president Bush was POTUS, he decided to change destinations while in flight. That puts up a temporary flight restriction in the area. As a pilot they are required to know about it. Back then, if there was no restriction before he took off, that was all the pilot could do. There was no way to know in a 206, that the new TFR was in effect. Our pilot clipped the edge of the TFR as he was "mowing the lawn" on a mission. He had the flaps down a bit to get the ground speed lower, and was flying along slowly in a straight line, when a F-16 came screaming past standing on it's tail. Then he saw a second F-16.

He said he was tempted to lower his flaps and get to just above stall speed to see the air show of F-16s trying to do 100 knots ground speed, but he just finished his flight line. Ground control contacted him, and asked him to land at some large busy airport, and he told them no, I am heading to my home airport, just a few miles away. He told them they can find him at the fuel pumps.

He was fueling up so he had full tanks ready to go in the morning. The FBI, and the FAA pulled up. And asked a lot of silly questions. He said he took off long before the flight restriction was put up. In the end, they essentially shook their finger at him, and agreed there was a legit reason for him to be there, and he was OK.

Now with ADS-B our airplane would know about some new temporary restriction, and we could avoid the area.

The "Motors in the Morning" event at the dealership was nice. It was also the start of the Le mans coverage, and the 75th anniversary of Porsche, so free coffee and donuts, than later free pizza and beer. Oh darn!

A local guy showed up in his Bugatti Veyron, anf that was the first one I have seen in the wild. There were three guys with 911 GT3 RSs and lots of just run of the mill Porsches.

It was a nice event.

Morning all. Short weekend and now a long week ahead.

Porsche-poor 06-13-2023 06:02 AM

Happy Tuesday. One down and 4 to go.

GH85Carrera 06-13-2023 08:10 AM

I have started the packing of the 911 for the trip. Just figuring out the car wash stuff is a challenge. With no hoses allowed, and just the water-less product as an option, it is a bit different as to the supplies.

The tools to pack are the same. Clothes, no change. Electronics bag for the laptop and charging cords are the same.

Porsche-poor 06-13-2023 08:17 AM

Don't forget to put all the important stuff on the bottom so you have to unpack it all on the side of the road if needed.

GH85Carrera 06-13-2023 08:18 AM

My biggest "secret" is lots of small bags. Easy to find the right bag for the right "stuff" and the clothes are packed in the suitcases, with the small bags surrounding it.

Porsche-poor 06-13-2023 08:22 AM

So what we call "clown car" packing!

GH85Carrera 06-13-2023 09:22 AM

Yea, there are no large areas like a conventional trunk. I even utilizes the space under the rear seat backs when they are folded forward. There is room for lots of small stuff between the seat bottom and the flat storage area.

Porsche-poor 06-14-2023 06:04 AM

Morning all. Almost half way through the week.

GH85Carrera 06-14-2023 06:18 AM

I am all dressed and ready to mow, but we had a F-350 Super Duty dew, it is just nuts how much dew is on everything. There is a light breeze, and the sun is out. So maybe before it gets to the 80s I can get to the yard work.

Anybody want a peahen? One has taken up residence at mom and dads. They found it interesting at first, but it pecks the patio door and poops everywhere.

My old boss lived next to a 1/4 section of wild property that was part of the land run, and has no residence on it since they family got the deed. The abstract was just one page. It is still for sale for a huge price.

He had a peacock show up at his house. His wife thought it was wonderful, and all the great grand kids loved it. He hated with a passion as it make horrid noise, and pooped everywhere, even on the roof and the front porch. One day his wife and all the kids went to some event and he stayed home. He got out his 12 gauge, and was um cleaning it outside and it went off, and blew away the peacock with a perfect shot.

He just took the corpse over to the wild property a dozen feet and left it there, out of sight.

The great grand kids wanted to see the Peacock, and he told them it found a girlfriend peahen, and they flew off together to live happily ever-after.

Little white lies!

GH85Carrera 06-14-2023 12:03 PM

Yea, it avoided a lot of crying kids.

Porsche-poor 06-14-2023 12:08 PM
