Mourning all. Back home. Beach was to cold for me to wade in. For a few days it barely got over 60 out. Fun was had by all.

GH85Carrera 08-16-2024 10:26 AM

Glad ya had some fun.

Oklahoma City has a suburb named Moore, and it's suburb further south is Norman, and south of there is Noble. They had 12 inches of rain and some flooding.

I’ve had ~18” of standing water in my back yard at least half a dozen times this summer. Just a crappy combination of a really wet summer, 100 year old stormwater management system, and massive overdevelopment in downtown.

And, I finished school. This summer was my final semester. I won’t be official and get that fancy piece of paper for a few months.

Porsche-poor 08-19-2024 06:35 AM

Morning all. I think I caught up with all the home from vacation chores.

So what are your next steps?

I’m taking a little down time right now.

Grad school looks like an option. I applied to GWU for mid year admission and I’ll probably apply to Georgetown. Their foreign service/international affairs programs are pretty equivalent. (Georgetown is technically the better program, but I could conceivably start GWU in the spring.)

Gearing up for the job hunt thing as well. This is an entirely new experience for me. Prefer to find a Fed job, but open to going basically anywhere that’s looking for a Middle East political analyst.

So State Department or CIA? The next Jack Ryan?

Porsche-poor 08-20-2024 06:23 AM

Morning all. At least HHI's prospects are looking up! Just try and keep your head down.

I took the FSOT, and did reasonably well, in the last cycle, but didn't get selected for the panel interviews. I'll do the FSOT at least one more time.

Basically every big agencies, and a ton of the small ones, have area specific analysts.

Phew, the yard is edged and mowed once again. Golly what fun. The weather was nice, when I finished up at 11:00, it had just reached 80 degrees. Nice breeze and partly cloudy. Almost perfect mowing weather.

I need to mow, but my yard is currently under 6-8" of water. The flooding has been absolutely insane this year.

Porsche-poor 08-21-2024 09:41 AM

Morning/afternoon all. Just cut off some limbs from the tree out front. If it kills it so be it.

GH85Carrera 08-21-2024 11:46 AM

As I was mowing, a cicada attacked me. Well, OK, it bumped into my arm and fell to the ground. The cicada, not my arm!

Reuben the hunter dog was laying in the sun of the east side of the house. I called to him and pointed at the cicada on the ground. He gobbled it up like a fantastic treat. He saved me from the mean cicada. Of course, cicadas are totally harmless and can't bite or sting. But it attacked me! I suspect it was in it's death throws.

Porsche-poor 08-21-2024 11:50 AM

I wonder if you were disturbing its nap.

GH85Carrera 08-21-2024 02:43 PM

It has been a tough day! This morning when I went into the guest bathroom, there was a scorpion trapped in the bathtub. I put on my leather gloves, and grabbed a piece of toilet paper, and gave it a free ride to the sewage treatment plant. I can only guess it came from the attic through the pot light over the tub-shower area.

Then I had to mow and edge the yard, and fight off a killer cicada. Fortunately, Reuben was available to rescue me. Then the mean boss's wife demanded I clean the pond filters once again.

And for dinner I was forced to fire up the grill and cook dinner! A couple of prime steaks. Damn that was good meat. I did have to turn on the patio ceiling fans as it was a bit toasty outside.

I did get my nap this afternoon before the steaks so not all was lost. ;)

Porsche-poor 08-22-2024 08:24 AM

Sounds like a great day all except the stingy type bug on the tub!
