Morning dudes.
Monday again, but at least the weather here is ok. The weekend was warm and sunny! |
It wasn't windy there? Its been stupid windy here all weekend. I wanted to do some shooting next weekend but it was much too windy to enjoy outside...
Oh I saw "Rango" on friday. Funny animated movie. Lots of references the kids won't get, but the adults love. Scary good animation too. |
Just ordered me a climbing rope and some safety gear.... Still no bash helmet though... ;)
|
Well, first time you hit your head, hopefully your brain will be intact enough to picture me, pointing at you, and saying 'Told you so!...' ;)
|
I know, I need to get one... But they are like $70 bucks...
|
Sid,
70 bucks.... still cheaper than brainsurgery. Your parents will be thankfull too, that they won't have to take care of vegetable Sidney for the rest of their lives.... |
I know....
Its stupid, I never get on a motorcycle without one... Just don't see that big of a risk climbing... |

I've never made it clear, but I think my parents know that is what I want. I hate to say this, but if I go young I want it to be rather spectacular. Quick and painless for me, and something that legends are made of. :D
I've seen what health care is like in this area, damned if I want to be on life support for months.... It is you all's duty to print this post off and make sure I don't spend years on life support, OK? |
Thats the thing with risks.... you don't always see them. But you better be prepared...
YouTube - Yosemite Climbing Accident this one is interesting, read all about it... Wear a Climbing Helmet -- Climbing Helmets Save Lives |
I'd consider a living will. Really helps in these matters and also make it clear to your parents about your wishes verbally as well.

That video, is trad climbing, and the climber is an idiot. He could have placed more gear and cut that fall in half, if not more. On the sport climbs I do you can never fall more than about 10ft, and those are usually what is called a "protected" fall. Meaning if you do fall, you aren't going to bash into tons of stuff.
Yes I need to wear a helmet, however the likelyhood of me taking a 20-30ft whipper, are pretty much nill. I'm not dumb enough to put myself in that position. |

Gotta agree with Sidney, it's more about what I want if something happens. I proved that rock can't kill me. I have yet to be hit by a bus.... But if I am...

Can't really believe we're discussing this again, :). Maybe after all you guys don't need a helmet, since both of you seem to have a pretty thick skull.... :D:D Hey, look at it this way, maybe you won't need life support.... This guy doesn't either... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301897174.jpg And this girl, she looks like she still has some use of her fingers left.... so logging on here won't be an issue either... :p:p http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301897287.jpg |
So we should all be wearing helmets when we walk on the sidewalk, walk across the street?

I have been riding a motorcycle since I was 12, gocart since 10.... Started driving the Porsche at 15, autocross at 18, hopefully wheel to wheel before 22.... Started climbing at 19.... My parents have been supportive of all of this, they understand that I take appropriate precautions, and that I ENJOY doing this stuff. They aren't going to expect me to stop something I love just b/c it is dangerous. They are fully aware that I could lose my life on a motorcycle, a climbing accident, a car crash, or even a freak backpacking incident. The point is, that if I go out doing something I love, they will take solace in the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and lived my life with no regrets. |
