My car is a user and that's the way I like it. And it is true that many (sometimes it feels like all) modern cars can drive circles around me in my old 911, but that's not the point. It's still a blast and I'm not to throw the towel in yet. Good luck on your search, hope you find a new 911 to love.

btw there is no law that says you can't own a longhood and beat the living **** out of it.

in fact i'd say if you own a longhood and DON'T beat the living **** out of it you are an unfit owner.

you can look at a numbers matching '70 S in bahama yellow w/ original sport seats, etc. etc. etc. and talk all day long about how great a car it is...but if you haven't done the deed yourself you are passing on hearsay.

i say buy the car that strikes your fancy and wail on that beyatch!!!

Dave,

I have had the pleasure of seeing your guns first hand and the tender mercies you lavish on them. I am a simple man in terms of shotguns but even with my well diggers sensibilities I can recognize the beauty and utility of your collection. You have, in fact, completely skewed my son's perspective on shotguns. When he surveys our motley crew, he is sure there are more accomplished arms, guns with more cache, he just knows we don't own any. But you do.

That said, keep your favorite shotgun for the field and part with the rest so you can find and own the right 911. You can rebuild the shotgun stash but you can't reclaim lost days arching through PA with a six flat pushing you onward.

The guns will find you again...go find a car.

Once again Paul you are right. Thank you for all the compliments, I had no idea I effected both you and Jack so. But you are right, part of the fun of that collection was finding them all one at a time.

Jack just thinks you are cool, Dave...which makes me think the cool calculus of a/my fourteen-year-old needs a valve adjustment. I personally think you're overrated.

The shotguns are just part of it.

Since I cratered my 964 both my kids have been adamant I get another Porsche. They remember the sound.

My P market is similar to yours, I think...driver.

BTW, I've got $200 bones burning a hole in my pocket...

There are a TON of SC's out there for $10 to $15K. I want something I can drive like it's stolen. I babied the S for fear of breaking it and losing value as an original car. I want something I can play with. A well sorted, not rusted car. Even something considered outlaw, like a 912 with a six stuck in it. Or a car with non matching numbers. I've had my "collector car" I want a user.

I need a change as well. The 912's have some allure, but the nice ones are pricey anymore. I don't need another project. Just found an SC for a friend for 6K and it's nice with a few interior problems. I had an ad running looking for a car and one came to me. I say that's how to do it.

Cars with any issues just don't sell well. I'll take a car with a ripped interior any day over one with motor issues. But, both issues drop the price the same! Go figure.

And go looking. The SC hunt took 3 months for a seller to call. That's not bad.

A good, honest SC or Carrera with a solid PPI mechanically, average general condition exterior/interior and perhaps miles on the higher side.
