Call me crazy but.......

I really miss my 911. I have been toying with the idea of getting another one but being retired and on a fixed income getting the capital is a bit difficult. Trying to get my priorities right, I think a 911 is more important to me than my gun collection, which if liquidated would get me pretty close to the number I need to put the heart back into my garage. Am I nuts?

Not nuts if the 911 will bring you more pleasure than your gun collection.

Come on. You can do better than that. Use your guns to steal someone's 911. Then you get your guns AND a 911.

An S4 should go for a lot more than that. What's wrong with it?

Money is tight for me, so the 911 sits in the garage this summer. Have you considered something with less maintenance like a used Boxster? A few of the retired guys in the local PCA club have them, one puts snow tires on it for the winter.

There are a TON of SC's out there for $10 to $15K. I want something I can drive like it's stolen. I babied the S for fear of breaking it and losing value as an original car. I want something I can play with. A well sorted, not rusted car. Even something considered outlaw, like a 912 with a six stuck in it. Or a car with non matching numbers. I've had my "collector car" I want a user.

Running project car, dude is bored/too much on his plate, depressed economy....$3000.00 A 928S4 is a pretty damned ferocious beast. If he's not driven one yet...honestly it's a much better and cooler car than an old re-hashed VW bug.

Back when I was married to what turned out to be an evil woman I had to liquidate almost everything I had to save the house my Great-Grandfather built which I was buying. I went through the guns first - had some really nice ones, too. The only one I miss out of the several thousands of dollars worth is the German Walther PP. I wish I'd held that one back. And then there was about 20k-worth of camera and photography equipment. Needless to say if my employer hadn't went to providing company equipment I would have been up a creek. Some of the cameras were really collectible and I at times miss them. OK. So a buying a 911 isn't like trying to save a house - which I did and have Never been late on a mortgage payment - knock wood - but my point is that even though we sometimes have to get rid of some of the things we love in the end what we get out of it will mean more to us. Good luck!

Get over the fact that it's a cheap car, even new...get over the fact that there are a gadzillion of them out there, and even the base models have the same exterior look... For pure driving pleasure? This has it all over my 1972 911S:

nice sc or carrera - a little pantina on the paint so you won't worry about an odd scratch. nothing quite matches the sound, the smell or the experience (sorry Paul, even the ford) as you are blasting down one of those curvey west PA roads.
