I'm surprised (skeptical?) it was that close! I like that Tsukuba curcuit.... tight, but technical!

Every enthusiast mag I've read raves about the new 370Z...R&T has it faster on the track than the Cayman S, but they preferred the Cayman overall.

Love the Caymen - took lead and kept it.

911 was a tip.
Driver is the main factor. Far more instructive would be to have each driver get their best hot lap in each and compare those. Might have been the same though - the CaymanS is a damn competent track car. Stock 911 is soft by comparison. |

The 911 driver looked to be off the gas and braking very early if the videos were synced properly.
I bet there would be different results if they swapped cars.

How many times have Japanese drivers won a Formula 1 race? A WRC event? Le Mans?
Has any Japanese driver ever actually won any international motor racing event of note? Or even stood on the podium?

Well, I guess this proves it....Porsche is always superior to any other car.

Maybe. Maybe not.
What I saw was what appeared to be a starting position based on lowest HP to highest HP. The S2000 was on pole, followed by the Cayman S, followed by the 135i, followed by the 370Z, and finally, the 997. The Cayman quickly took the S2000 and then ran away - for a while. The other faster cars had to come up through the pack, which is tougher than just running clean. The 370Z and the Carrera were like a tag team all the way to the end, and were gaining on the Cayman - they almost caught it by the end. To me, it did look like the 370 was eventually going to be passed, but the driver was giving it his all - and he was certainly braking later than the Carrera driver at the end of that back straight. All in all, an excellent performance by the Nissan. The Cayman probably had the best chassis of them all, but it seemed outgunned power-wise by the Nissan and Carrera. |

Looked to me that there were 3 fast, competive cars, and 2 which didn't quite match up.

Fastest lap was 911, though not by much, over the Z.

It looked to me like the 370Z gives 100% porsche performance for a lot less money.
The styling cues are very Porsche-like as well. Of the cars i'd want the Cayman, then the 370Z. 911's are such an old, tired design- they just haven't done anything for me in a long time (i still love the older classic "picnic bench" turbos though). It is the epitome of a look that needs to be retired. The Cayman should really have been the new 911 IMO, instead of a new model with a new name. Last edited by m21sniper; 08-04-2009 at 08:26 AM.. |

Anyone notice that the 911 was an AUTOMATIC? It was the only non-manual car there...

It was also the only utterly tired and uninspired 70 year old body style there too.

Not to denigrate your car, Snipe...but the 911 variant has hung around so long because Porsche has been afraid of making the same marketing mistake they did with the 928. It really was planned as a 911 replacement, but customer demand kept the 911 going, while 928 sales were a disappointment.
Actually, the 928 was a good car. But the 911 people kept wanting the 911, and the BMW and Mercedes buyers remained true to BMW and Mercedes. A good car released at the wrong time....the 928 legacy.
