I think the ONLY celebrity-driven restaurant I've ever eaten in was "Planet Hollywood". And they deserved their fate.

First you have to define celebrity. Do former football players count? The Selmon brothers have some great BBQ. They are celebrities to OU fans that were fans 20 years ago. The brothers have several restaurants in different cities.

Is Mario Batali a celebrity because he has restaurants and did a show with Gwyneth Paltrow? Or just a well known cook?

I've been to Maria Maria (Carlos Santa's place in Phoenix). It wasn't bad at all, a little over priced, but otherwise it had great food.

There is a gray line sometimes.

As restaurants, themed restaurants and, restaurant mgt groups often "buy" or partner with a celeb just for the name.

I am a restaurant consultant for a large foodservice distributor and when you get past the OHHH AHHH of the celeb many are ... well ... just restaurants.

Don't want to pop anyones bubble but some listed here are exactly that.

Very true.

For a time there were several members of the 85 Bears that were active in the restaurant/night club ownership scene. Many, many folks got to meet and hang out with Walter Payton at his places.

Gretzky's place in Toronto was a nice sports bar a few's years back. Rumor had it that he would stop in on occasion. Many momento's from his career where on display. Food was pretty good from what I remember.
