Empire of the Summer Moon
By S.C. Gwynne.
He takes an unblinking, non-romantic view of the Plains Indians from their early interactions with the Spanish to their last days before the reservation years. The Comanches (the various tribes and units that made up the loose confederation of the Comanche Nation) were some bad dudes. He also takes a very even handed view of the Indian Wars. I plan on stopping in Cache, OK next week to see Quanah Parker's Star House.
