Need some mac help

I recently vaporized about seven years worth of email from my Mac Mini. I bought a new Mac book recently, and for whatever reason, I decided to rename the user account on mini. I edited the account name, and poof! Everything that was tied to the user account on that machine was gone. Luckily, I had already transferred everything off of the machine except for the mail. I changed the account name back to the original name, but I was never able to pull up my old email again. It's almost like I orphaned the files, documents, etc.., that were tied to this user account. Is there any chance the email is recoverable at this point?

TIA

The whole thing is funny but start watching at 2:05 for the answer

Just being funny, not sure if there really is a way to recover for you. Best of luck.

As long as you have not deleted anything then it's still there.

First question?

Which mail client are you using? Apples built in Mail?

You changed user account name for the Mini or for the Mail app?

Sounds like the Mini.

Yes, I changed the account on the mini. I had two mail clients: the regular Apple Mail client, and Thunderbird (old email converted from a previous machine).

I'm sure it's all still there, I'm just curious if I can ever get to it again. I had another Admin account on the mini, but I can't see it with that either. Is there a file that stores the email data? Does anyone know the name of the file?

At what level are you looking for the files?

What account/s are listed under the Users folder?

Oh, and do you have root enabled on the machine?

I think I found it. It looks like it's all there if I drill through the directories in the user's folder. It's weird, tho, because it's all under the name for the renamed account, and not the original. It's not where I expected it to be, but as long as it's somewhere, I guess I'm okay.

Thanks, guys.

The update manager is bouncing around on the bottom of the screen like a Jack Russel f'ing Terrier.

I almost died on that one.
