WTF?

I hope she gets at least a decent token amount.. ...including the legal right to b*tch slap the neighbor. Even if the kids were on their own for a few minutes, uh, that's not abandonment for f*ks sake...

I don't ever remember ANY police agency ever admitting they were wrong. Have you?

BTW...that reporter must have bought her dress from the local Bedrock boutique...

Welcome to the 21st century there Baz. What tickled me was the "unsupervised" play. Coming up in the 50's and 60's I never remember mine or any of my friends parents ever supervising us. We came and went as we pleased but did have to be home for meals and curfew at night. Around the age of 11 or 12 we all got 22's and engaged in a Mississippi Delta favorite pastime, snake hunting. We were given through and strict training on the use of the guns before being turned loose. None of us ever got shot. All politically incorrect now.

Good point as usual Larry....my brother - 11 months older - and I and our buddies used to raise hell around our neighborhood on our own while still in grade school. We rode our bikes all over the place...heck we'd ride as far as our legs would take us! Climbed (and fell out of) trees, played army, football, baseball, kickball, you name it. Dad was overseas or at work and Mom was at home doing domestics. We came home for dinner - caught hell for whatever clothes got destroyed and mud tracked in the house...had a nice dinner, did the dishes or took out the garbage, then homework and TV and then sack time. And if a neighbor had any concerns they would speak to my folks...not a frickin' cop!

It's a different world we live in now - that's for sure...

Maybe she'll make enough money to get some makeup lessons. This was a local news story and I'm a bit surprised it went national. Stupid neighbor and stupid police. I expect that it was a "Get Off My Lawn!" kind of neighbor.

It's not like she shot an unarmed paraplegic (hahahahaha) or anything...

No foolin' Baz. When I was growing up in the 60's, I and my friends were, in today's parlance, " free ranged". We never got in any deep doo-doo, none of us were killed or wounded (at least not significantly), we had a lot of fun (no cares), and we knew we had to be home for dinner, or face the consequences.

Talk about "Paradise Lost". Or as one of my friends says, "Welcome to the 21st century, get a helmet".

When I was 8, the guys 2 doors down (9 and 10), their sister (8) and other similarly aged neighborhood kids would go to "the woods" all summer long and play.

I just looked at the area and I guess it seemed bigger then! They were about 1 mile by 2 miles. And at the other end of the main trail (dirt road)? The Oswald D. Heck center. Yep, an insane assylum...

And we used to skate board at O.D. Heck!

Mom's number one rule when we were growing up:

"No bleeding in the house! If you boys are going to bleed, go outside!"

Times have changed.....

"You're either inside or outside, no in and out of the door" still rings in my ears from my childhood!

Must be a fun neighborhood to live in.

There must be more to this story. I can't imagine a neighbor would call the police to report the kids "abandoned" outside by themselves. There must have been some previous bad blood between the two. That said, the neighbor appears to be a raging b*tch.

I also remembering going out by myself to see my neighbors 2 doors down at 6 years old.

I grew up in a small suburb outside of Philly, and I had free reign of wherever my legs could pedal. We would play in the "crick" for hours trying to dam it up. Jumping trashcans on our bikes, and we never had any issues. Some of the grouchy people would yell at us to sty off their lawns and we did because we didn't want them telling our parents on us.
I feel sorry for kids today, they will never know what it is like to grow up being a kid

The cop just rolls up and tells the woman "you're under arrest" and cuffs her? No warning, no discussion? Something doesn't smell right.

I agree. And in Texas, for gods sake! It was really really strange.

My parents would have spent a lot of time in jail as I was unsupervised most of my youth. What fun!
