Whipped Rice - My New Daily Driver!

We're doing a bit of shuffling of the p-cars at Casa de Lane. We're pulling the spyder's engine and putting it aside for a *very* special project. Butters will surrender his engine to the spyder, so Butters gets put aside for a while. The spyder will get sold sometime next spring with Butters engine in it. I'll make it up to him though as his next engine will be a lusty beast. But until probably next spring, he'll be parked.

Now that puts me without a driver. I decided to cap my spending at $1500. It had to have cold air, be big enough to haul the dogs in the back and unless it was a V8, it had to be a stick shift.

So - here's what $1,000 buys. 1992 Pathfinder XE V-6, 5 speed, cold a/c. All 4x4 works perfectly, shifts well, runs great. Very smooth engine with decent mid-range torque. Just changed the fluids and ran it through emissions. OK, we did have to remove the interior and HOSE it down it was so dirty, but other than that, no complaints. Bike rack and roof rack came with it.

Kind of a fun little truck. Anybody else have one of these little beasties?

Had one. Was actually my first SVU. Had the 2 door model. Sucked with the automatic. Look for rust under the rear seats.

I liked it a lot though.

Cheers.

Superb... what a great find.

"Whipped Rice?"

I dare not guess what you mean by that.

Nice find Angela, and definitely a good number you paid for it.

So what kind of motor are you going to put in your 911?

Nothing crazy, just "nice". Have my eye on a big port 3.0 engine with the big CIS runners. Thinking that said engine would be really sweet with a little more compression (the 78/79's are the low compression ones), 98mm bore, better cams and exhaust. Nothing nutty, just a little more zip, but keep CIS on it for the DD good fuel economy and manners. I know it compromises performance, but it's really hard to beat the driveability and fuel economy. Probably get to that this spring.

In the mean time, Whipped Rice makes a fine driver. The spark plugs on the driver's side bank are really located weirdly though. They passenger bank is pretty normal looking, intake side. The driver's bank is also intake side but the engine looks like it's pretty narrow and canted to the passenger side. So the plugs appear to point almost straight up buried deep in beyond the manifold. Definately some maneuvering on those ones...

Hoping to find a set of the old alloy Pathfinder wheels. I really hate these wheels... If I don't find a set of wheels I like (and that are used/cheap) soon, then Steve will buy tires for THESE wheels and I'll be stuck with the damn things!

Cool old trucks. Good luck killing it, they run forever (or until they rust out).
