My Dog is not Doing well:-(

Poor little guy isn't moving much, clearly not feeling well as he isn't eating his food or treats, and I get get him to take his meds but he is drinking his water... I called the vet, as he is already coming back to check on him with the lab results in a few days, but I'm worried the little guy won't make it.... Say a prayer for him as he has been a very good dog that claimed me in either 92 or 94...

Damn...yes, hoping for the best while preparing for the worst. We've all been there...and knowing that never lessens the hurt.

Thanks guys, is is just a few feet from me, just lying down, did have some more water & is responcive, almost looks more tired than anything... I can't lift him or anything, as his slipped disk, but until tonight, he was taking his meds & eating fine(including earlier today) I'm worried about his kidney as well, the vet is waiting for the lab work.. A new friend stopped by tonight & wanted to take me out, but I had to tell her another time, don't want to be far from the little guy...

I really like that picture of the dog and cats on the bed.

What's the doggie's name?

Looks like a great pup. Sounds like he's had a good run. I'm sure he's had and shared lots of love. Hopefully things go well and he can share more love.

His name is Roat, but like me, he is much more gray than when that picture was taken.. He has alway gotten along well with the cats, thinks he is a cat, and when Felix, was alive, my big black & white cat, he was kept inn place.. good news is, he ate his treats & meds. But, between his slipped disc & I'm worried about his kidneysthat may be why he has been holding off pooing, I can't do anything until the vet gets the lab work back..

I wasn't kidding when I said he chose me, I went out to the work shop one day and he was on a shelf... Yes, he is a great dog...

Byron, you are a good soul.

You've been thru this before.

It never gets any easier but you have given another soul the best that you have to offer.

And I don't think Roat could have gotten any better.

Hang in there.

Scott

Thanks Scott,

His breathing is looking labored, I'm going to try & reach the vet again in a few hours. Poor little guy.. When he 1st came to me, I thought he was to cute & friendly for someone to have dumped off, so I did the signs & news paper ads, but got no response. hen one Sat. I rember very clearly, as I just got back from a funeral of a PCA friend, hadn't quite changed out of the suite yet & there was a knock on my door. Turns out the little guy is part beaver, he had chewed a hole in the fence & run out in the street, where some idiot had run him over & kept going, luckly, there was a car right behind that one who saw it, and walked up to my door. to tell me. Being a Sat afternoon, there weren't too many vets open, and the 1st one said

he isn't your dog, it is going to cost alot to save him, but we can put him down for $50
: Well, that wasn't going to happen, but the next county over, the Humane Society had a vet that was open. He had a crushed pelvise amond his inuries & busted up leg. The fixed him up, I had to take him back every week for a new cast, the girls at the vet loved him, because he was so good about everything & his friendly nature. I spent over 3 grand on this little bugger who wasn't even mine & just showed up.. He healed up so well, that he could run & jump (yes, this low rider use to jump) like nother had ever happened & seemed truely grateful. All the animals here, chose me, I didn't really have a choice, I'm just their human pet....

Good luck Byron.

Crappy thing to have to think about. Looks like a good boy.

You're probably dealing with the, "am I keeping him around for me, at his expense?" thing. I say not to worry about that (we've lost 5 pets in 1.5 years. 5!), he'll know when the time is right.

Looks like his kidneys are shutting down, just got off the phone with my vet and he suggested that I take him to the Emergancy clinic, so wish us luck.....

Byron, I think it's great that you love your pets so much.

They are special friends to us. They're wonderful.

I'm sorry your little Roat is not doing his best.
