Wow, that's pretty amazing stuff. Looks like a ton of fun, almost as much as WRC. Funny, I think my car on a good day has about 1.5" of travel available.
The view from the front reminds me of a bug out of the movie Starship Troopers.

you're comparing a 4 cylinder 1600 dual port VW motor with dual carbs to a 700-900 horsepower Sand Car?
I guess the Bosch Blue coil on the VW motor will help make up the difference. GRINS. The big boys start at $100K and up. http://www.tatummotorsports.com/tatumcar_info.php?products_id=389 Nice used cars for sale, starting at $40-60K, twin turbo's $110-120K, ever want your own trophy truck? Got $200K? http://www.tatummotorsports.com/photogallery.php?cPath=8

Boy, watching that thing steer is crazy... seems like seconds pass between the driver turning the wheel and the front wheels making enough contact to actually bite and turn the vehicle. Crazy video!

what have you guys bean living in a CAVE???????????
since we have bean doing dis since dinos roamed(im 51) and attended more bajas(3 a year-250/500/1000) than i can count, this is the natural progression of the class over the years. buttttt..................... THE SAME POWER TO TRANS TO SUSPENSION TO WEIGHT REMAINS! they cant nor my friends(chase/tellier-hollywood honda-class 1) keep freeking TRANSMISSIONS in the damn things. mendloa(sp) trannys are 5 and 6 speeds and cost insane money. makes porsche trannys for the track look like kinder garten money. everyjuan blows mass money on pony power and expects trannys to stay alive. the other problemo is the A-ARMS and REAR TRAILING ARMS staying alive with so much pony power. every single juan of these is a JUAN-OFF CREATION of time money blood sweat and tears and more tears. next baja in november watch speed channel and look up SCORE.com and note how many start...............and how many finish. INSANE ATTRITION RATE! ie. they DROP LIKE FLYS! back in 1987 feeny/foddrill here in phx had a porsche powered class 1. samo problem. excellent pony power delivery/reliable/insane ponys buttttt.........they could not keep trannys from breaking and a-arms and trailing arms on the damn thing to save their ass. so what im saying is since the dawn of insane pony power slapped into a chrome moly tube frame..............the age old problemo remains.............suspension and trannys. now try the samo thang with a freeking trophy truck which weighs even more than a class 1!!!!!!! whats hot poo one race does not mean squat until the vehicle finishes let alone places 1-2-3. and then repeats the same the following race or places better. hell of alot of fun, better than sex, but insane amount of time money blood sweat and lots of tears. ask me how i know. we finished 2nd overall in arizona in a score 1/2- 1600. if you have anything on yer bucket list in life...............make sure its attending at least (1) baja race in yer life. it will change you............for good of for bad~! |

alot are now running aluminum chevs of multiple configs. fuel injected. cheap buidable ponypower relative to all the other insane $$$$ flowing out their wallets.
pretty much as far as trophy trucks hp............around 750-850 hp due to suspension and tranny limitations. the days of 1500hp trophy trucks are long gone because nobody could make them live long enough. and breaking down sucks! |
