The PPOT Weight Loss And Fitness Challenge 2013

We’re doing it again, but with a twist.
- The 2013 challenge will be a full-year event, as in 2012. No more porking out for the holidays, dieting in January, and calling it a day. We’re going to be fit year-round.
- We’ll weigh in on Mondays and post updates here. At the end of 2013, I’ll review the thread, pull together the data, and name our winners.
- This is a Weight Loss & Fitness Challenge. Beyond your weight loss target, what is your individual fitness goal? Want to get to 12% body fat, wear a size 4, bench 200 lb, beat 40 minutes for 5 miles, ride a century, etc? State your goals and beat them!

First weigh-in is Monday, January 7. Let’s give everyone a few more days to finish off the figgy pudding. On Monday, post your starting stats and goals. We need:
- Screen name.
- Age.
- Weight in lbs.
- Body height in feet/inches.
- Goal weight by end 2013.
- Fitness goals by end 2013. Be as specific on your starting point and ending target as you can - helps consider you for fitness "winner" at year-end.
- Starting photos optional, as always.

Every Monday after that, weigh in and post your update.
- If you miss a Monday weigh-in, just post late or come back the next week. No worries.
- If you want to post daily, or show cool charts, go for it.
- Update us on your fitness as you make progress, can be weekly but doesn't have to be. If you do ride a century every week, then definitely do tell us about it!

You're reading this post in February, March, or even November? No problem! Join the challenge at any time during the year.. Just post your starting stats and year-end goals, as above, and start taking control of your weight and fitness!

Vash, I love your positive attitude. Hmmmmm... This sounds interesting. Might have to do this. I would like to lose 15 to 20 pounds this year. Did people have good results in past challenges?

Hmm...do you accept slightly overweight, opinionated Dutchmen?

I guess I can do the metric/imperial conversion....but I sorely need to lose 10 kg off my 1.9m frame....

Too many oliebollen and not enough fietsen!

Some do. Some like me tried to contribute to both the weight loss thread and the whats for dinner thread, not any easy thing.

It's worth doing, for the discipline of posting weekly and the support/learning from the back and forth on the thread.

Just post up your current stats, your goals, and optionally a starting pic (admittedly most skip the pic, I think we had only 3 in the 2012 thread).

john..i honestly think that cooking for yourself will help in weight loss.

i have a "loosely" interpreted rule for myself. if i want to eat it, i have to make it. imagine wanting French Fries and having to make them yourself? you would rarely eat it..

pecan pie? love it! (i'm from texas!)..but if i want it, i make it. i eat it once every two years.

I'm down with this. The fire was finally lit under me a few weeks ago, so I will remain in "prologue mode" until the 7th. Looking to bust my year long plateau wide open.

I should fatten up a little for the weigh in - the first few pounds after a binge come off easy!

Thanks for starting the thread John - this will be fun again this year. To me just having someone post on the thread and getting an email notice is a good reminder.

Vash - I feel your pain on the donuts. I have auto-sorted all emails from the secretaries that contain the word "donuts" and "bagels" into the spam folder. No joke! This way I don't find out about it until lunchtime when they are stale.

What's a good way to get temporarily really fat for the weigh-in?

No number you-know-what for the next 4 days? (ouch) Overdose on salt during the weekend? (water retention) Drink a gallon of water Monday morning? (can anyone even hold a gallon?)

Never mind, that was an unworthy thought.

New study says being only moderately obese doesnt mean I will die any sooner. That's great news because now I just have about 15 lb to lose to stay in that category. I'm in!

Great idea! I'm in.. too much studying and too little exercise in grad school has me up a few pounds more than I'd like. This will be good motivation to hit the gym at least 4 days out of the week, gain some muscle, and burn some fat.

We prefer them really overweight. But if all you have is slightly, it'll have to do :-)

Anyone targeting a body fat percentage this year? My new scale gives a reading, so I want to make it a goal, of course! I am sure it is not accurate in absolute terms, but will serve as a relative measurement.

This could prove interesting & hopefully motivational. I had planned on cutting down on some so-called 'empty calories', to wit, scotch & beer coupled with my cravings of a few excessively high caloric things like pineapple-bacon cheeseburgers for 2013. I'm in.

Cheers

Daughter is getting married in the Caribbean in April, I need to go from 180 to 165. I'm 5'10".

I think I could do it with a few less beers.
