My new (to me) daily driver: 2003 BMW sport wagon

Finally doing something only for me (estranged wifey hates wagons...I've always loved them from my 71 Volvo P1800 to my 92 525it that's on its last leg). Thought about snagging a 2000 540it with 6 speed, but decided for now to get this.

;

Flying out to Houston Tuesday or Wednesday to pick it up and road trip back to the magnolia state.

The 525/530ix is an awd wagon, I believe. I really didn't want awd...like it simple. Rarely need in the deep south. I got a great deal I think...2 owner, 64K miles, well under $10K. All service resords from dealer from day one. Interior is immaculate, non-smoker. Cheap to tag and insure.

Yep, you done good. Great cars. Any plans or is it staying stock? There's nothing better than a nicely modified touring.

Other than finding a nice set of factory 17's to replace the 16" wheels, probabbly just drive for a 150K or so.

Nice to see you enjoying the single life Dueller.

Not sure if i'd have gotten a station wagon as my personal act of rebellion....but to each their own.

LOL...not single......yet.

I bought my last BMW wagon when I was freshly divorced the first time. Telegraphs to the middle aged cripple soccer moms I'll be reduced to chasing that I'm harmless and a family type o' guy. Sorta like a stealth bomber.

Irony is I used money I had been squirreling away to buy my wife a Jag XK8 convert...her dream car. OOOOOPS.

Gratuitous pics.

HMMMM...wonder what this space is used for?

Hope its as clean as it looks in the pics.

I like wagons too and with my kids and dogs I need something I can throw them in. I'll do something like the BMW when I get rid of my MDX. Nice score. I saw an older 240 or DL? wagon the other day that was nicely modified. Looked like late 70's. Guy had it painted white, lowered, some trim removed, sitting on later turbo wheels, very cool looking car.

Nice car. If you plan on keeping it awhile I suggest you spend the money and DIY what I DIY'd on my 2002 325i at 60k miles. These are all items that if done now will give you another 60k trouble free miles. Only thing you need to do different is change out the auto tranny fluid. As I recall it is an expensive change, but absolutely needed if you want your tranny to last more than 100k. What I did:

- New waterpump
- New coolant expansion tank
- New thermostat and housing
- New radiator/coolant lines
- Coolant flush and fill
- New fuel filter
- New oil and filter (OEM or Mobil1 5W-30 and OEM filter)
- New air filter
- New cabin air filter
- New belts
- Wiper blades
- New brake rotors (OEM)
- New brake pads (Axxis Metal Master)
- New brake lines (StopTech stainless steel)
- Brake fluid flush and fill with ATS Blue
- New brake wear sensors
- Transmission flush and fill (Redline)
- New NGK spark plugs
- Power steering flush and fill (Redline)
- Differential flush and fill (Redline)
- Valve Cover Gasket and Grommets

Welcome to the e39 Sportwagon club.

They're great cars, albeit with the most silly cupholders ever conceived.

We love ours.

No, that would be the 540.

The 525 is Munich's version of the Family Truckster.

Sweet. I really enjoyed our 528 iT.

PM me and I'll throw you some tips on some -no-cost hop ups.

Oh, if you need a Nokia cell phone box, I have one. We didn't utilise the in-car phone system so I removed it. You know, for less weight.

Nice, here is the wagon I just recently picked up for a song.

A 1968 Buick Sportwagon 400. Remember the Vista Cruiser, think of it with a big block....
