I am allergic to barnacles. I hear those are supposed to make your sticker peck out though.

I had some yesterday at "Hog Island" at the Ferry Building in S.F. Some of the best oysters I've ever had, highly recommended.

I'd comment, but I don't open food threads

Very nice, though.

Gorgeous. Oysters are a big favorite here. Most summer Saturdays, I go to the farmers' market and get a dozen.

I like them plain, with cocktail sauce, or with - I have forgotten the name of this - finely diced shallots in red wine vinegar. Oh, its mignonette.

Sort of flavorless IMO, unless you like the fresh taste of sand and other byproducts ingested by bottom feeders.

You're kidding right?

I forgot who wrote that. Might have been Elizabeth David.

Nope, don't like oysters. Have had them, they go down ok with a double shot of Southern Comfort.

Clams and Scallops are ok, but I don't order them.

Crab, crawfish and Shrimp are ok, lobster, slightly less.

if i had to be nitpicky..dottore's fantastic platter of bi-valves missed something. a professional oyster shucker would take the oyster knife, free the body inside the lower shell half, and flip it over so the round side is up..

jus sayin.......

i only eat them, or prefer to eat them during the cooler months. dont they breed during the summer?
