Jerry Sienfeld was right

So I need to rent a pick up because I think the material I need to pick up is to big for my suv. I call Enterprize and reserve a pick up for Friday morning being carefull to remind them I need a full size p/u twice. I get to the enterprize place and note there is no p/u in the lot. Go inside and ask about my reservation and they say yes we have your rental. I say I don't see a p/u in the lot. They say no we have a nice Impala for you. I ask if it has a roof rack for me to tie down the boxes I am going to stack on top of it. They say I can't stack boxes on top of the impala. I say then you should have had a pick up here for me like I reserved. "Your problem is you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to keep it". They suggest I wait while they see if they can find a p/u for me. I suggest they take a hike and stuff their Impala where the sun don't shine and walked out. I got a pick up at u-hall and as it turned out I could have gotten the whole load in my suv to begain with. Enterprize, you have lost me forever.

Actually U-Hall treated me pretty good. I had no reservation and just walked in the store and was driving out in the truck within a few minuets.

About 2 weeks ago, I "reserved a 12-foot Budget gasoline Box Truck for 4 days.

Somehow I ended up driving a 24' diesel. Lame, I tell ya. Driving a 13' tall, 24' long Diesel truck through the streets of Denver is not too much fun.

I reserved one of those huge jobsite forklift/tractors. Gradall.

They rented out mine and gave me a really big one instead.
Drove that through downtown Napa to the jobsite.

I rented a bucket-lift from a local lift company. Reserved it two weeks in advance for a job that was 2 hrs. away (lift company had a location 1/2 way to the jobsite). I line up the crew, electrician and some laborers. Everyone is at the jobsite preparing the light pole while I stopped in to the lift company to sign the papers and give my credit card.

"Sorry, we never heard back from you, so we had to give your lift to someone else". said the dip-sheet behind the counter. "Never heard back from me...when?" I asked. "Oh, we called you a few days ago." Me: "Umm...no you didn't". Counter-boy just shrugs his shoulders and goes back to his paperwork.

Talk about pizzed. I went berserk. I thought the counter-loser was going to call the police. I was foaming at the mouth.

They called the owner (another big prick I'll never do business with again) and ended up giving me a bigger lift (which I had to pay the higher rate for).

F-er's. Never again. Now that construction has grinded to a halt, I hope they're twisting in the wind.

I only rent Penske trucks, and Hertz equipment. Not the cheapest by a long shot, but the gear is always there when I go to pick it up, and it works properly.

Hint. Next time call a sign shop and see if they will rent a sign crane and operator for a few hours. The bucket on most sign cranes is nicer and most sign guys like the easy money.

So I have to pay a sign guy in addition to an electrician and laborers to install a light pole? Not sure about small town America, but that ain't happening here. How about the friggin lift company hiring someone with at least an 8th grade education who understands the importance of equipment rentals/reservations?

Ok well around here a sign crane with a 2 man basket and remotes will run ya ~$120 an hour. The operator can run the crane for ya or he can watch.

What was their story about why they called you a few days ahead of time, and why did they give it to someone else when they didn't hear back?

They shouldn't have made you pay the difference for the larger lift. The whole thing sounds like they had a friend/regular customer call who needed the smaller one that they and they just bumped you so they could hit you up for the increase.
