BMW extended warranties. Another question

Didn't want to bump this thread as this is a slightly different question
BMW extended warranties. What to do?
A coworker bought a 2013 328i xDrive from a non-BMW dealer. It's still under warranty until June but he's looking for an extended warranty.
He tried to buy one at a dealer, but apparently the previous owner of the car also bought an extended warranty. Since the sale went through a dealer she can't transfer her extended warranty to him, and while her warranty is in effect BMW won't sell him one on the same car. So he's stuck, he's talked to several people at BMW, and the only thing they've come up with is that he should (not them, him) contact the previous owner, and have her fill out the paperwork to be reimbursed for the unused extended warranty. Then wait 4-6 weeks while that is processed. Any other ideas? I said trade the car, but he doesn't like that idea.

It sounds like the previous owner has an extended warranty she must have forgotten about. She should be able to process a refund retroactive to the day she sold it to whoever she sold it to (assuming she has the sale documents), and it's really her refund (I'm not saying your coworker wants it- I'm not implying that). She paid for it. She will need to go to the BMW where she bought it to request the refund. A BMW dealer or the Carfax should tell you where the car was first sold. That dealer's motivation to cancel the warranty will be low, as they will have to refund the profit portion in the cancellation. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want to get in touch with the original owner and wind up refunding some past profit. Hopefully your coworker has the ability to contact her.

Your coworker could move ahead with an aftermarket warranty on his own. That won't be contingent on cancellation of the BMW extended warranty. He may need to be withing 1 month and 1,000 miles of the factory warranty expiring to avoid a higher price and possible vehicle inspection.

Thanks Steve.
I think he's just frustrated that he has to rely on her to cancel her warranty before he can register a BMW one. I would think BMW would be more than happy to sell multiple warranties on the same car, and never mention the refund to the first owner.

He does have her contact info.
His immediate problem is he has an X3 loaner while the dealer sorts out the whirring noise that he thinks is the timing chain. He likes it, maybe more than the 328.
