Hi-point 9mm carbine
I just bought one of these for my god son yesterday used for $200 with a red dot sight, 3 mags, on stock dual mag pouch, sling, and trigger lock. We fired about 100rds through it and it was both 100% reliable and plenty accurate (casual 2" groups at 25yds semi-rapid fire).
The kid could not be more thrilled, he thought he was getting a .22 marlin, lol!!! Imagine his surprise when his uncle Billy handed him a black 9mm rifle instead. ![]() I swear i've heard the phrase "when the zombies come." about 100x out of his mouth since i gave it to him. ![]() Here's a pic of it with my Bushmaster XM-15E2S (a rifle that has proven to be far more accurate right out of the box than it has any right to be- i'm talking on the order of 1 MOA and true 25m single hole groups) and my HK P7 PSP. ![]() Here's a pic of my little stormtrooper: ![]() Last edited by m21sniper; 08-23-2009 at 06:55 AM.. |

Nice.
For my son's birthday we just picked up a Savage bolt action .22 WMR. Our neighbor has the same gun and it is just dead nuts accurate. ![]()

An old roommate had that Hi-Point 9mm. It was dirt cheap and fun to shoot. But back them 9mm was cheap and easy to find. No more.

Nice rifle seahawk. I had originally planned on getting the kid a Ruger 10/22, but the $300+ price tag for a new base model put me off. I next ordered him a Marlin model 60 synthetic stock that would have come in at about $220.00 delivered. But my brother called me yesterday and told me "I got a dirt cheap carbine in trade for your boy that you gotta come see!"
Rick: I'm considering picking up a cheap progressive press and dies and teaching the kid how to handload. He's totally into military stuff and guns, i'm sure he'd thoroughly enjoy handloading with his uncle. |

On a related note, i got shot in the chest yesterday by a riccochet after it hit the backstop and came whistling right back at me. Anyone that tells you 9mm cor-bons don't have a lot of hitting power should try getting smacked in the ribs by one. Freaking ouch, got a nice .75 caliber cut/bruise on my sternum from it. It felt like i got punched in the chest by a boxer.

ya just gotta LOVE BLACK EVIL NON POLITICALLY CORRECT ZOMBEE EQUALIZERS! spent my beautiful cool morning at 6AM swabbing my HK-91 UBER BLITZKREIGER barrel down with shooters choice and JB's BORE PASTE! JB's is the coolest stuff i have used in a long damn time. my FFL recommended it and it is amazing the crap that comes out of polygonal rifling even AFTER ya think its clean and you get no more blue crap(copper) on yer swabs. AMAZING STUFF! everyJUAN of my barrels will now get a JB's bore pasting. available at brownells and midway. top tip: swab hell out of barrel with hoppes/shooters choice/sweets 7.62. swab the hell out of it until no more blue crap on swabs. place wet swab with solvent on it. place in barrel, drink cup coffee. place JB's on swab SPARINGLY and jerk back and forth 20X's. WATCH HOW MUCH CRAP COMES OUT!!!!! once swabs clean, swab again with solvent until clean.................. then stuff swab with CLP down barrel, then stuff swab down til dry..............step away from veapon............its as clean as it WILL EVER GET! |

Paul, Nice present! I have the same gun in .22 and the .17 HMR. The "accutrigger" requires some gettin used to but you are correct. Stupid accurate. They make you look like you can really shoot! My .17 has killed about 30 or so ground hogs this year.

Good job!
Amyone know anyone selling a Marlin Camp 45? I want one! I think I just got a camp 9, I hope the seller doesn't back out. However I want the 45 due to it using a 1911 mag and a flying trash can as a round!

I had seriously considered a Marlin Camp 9 before i bought my CAR-15. They do have some long term breakage issues that i discovered online after some research, but they seem to work just fine as actual weapons. They also seem to hold their value pretty well. The other rifle in the running was the mighty mini-14. I ended up getting a KILLER deal on the CAR though.
If you have a S&W double stack auto pistol the camp 9 makes a TON of sense- they use the same magazines. The Camp 45 uses std. 1911 magazines. Unfortunately the hi-point uses proprietary single stack 10rd magazines. Once i went the CAR-15 route instead of the Camp 9 route i decided to sell my custom S&W 9mm pistol too, and got myself a refurbed HK P7 PSP. Last edited by m21sniper; 08-23-2009 at 04:12 PM.. |

Marlin's need a new buffer and spring to stop them from destroying themselves.
I have a 1911 so yes, It would be cool to own the 45. I'm sure that I'll find one, the 9 will go to my DAD or a son.

If you end up getting one i'd be interested in your review. I've admired the Camp 9 from afar for many years. It's a really, really good pick if you are a 1st-3rd gen. S&W 9mm pistol owner.

My take on the M-16? Well....
I carried M-16s for a couple years in the Infantry, qualifying expert each and every time. At various points i used an M-16A2(Basic), M-16A1/M203(the A1 is a pretty crappy rifle IMO. Jam prone, with just decent range and accuracy), and again an M-16A2. The M-16A2 and newer models are fantastic weapons, but they must be kept reasonably clean, and are therefore IMO better in the hands of a trained professional or well versed enthusiast than they are in the hands of someone that does not keep it clean- ie conscripts or guerillas in extreme operating enviroments with limited to no cleaning materials/supplies. If that's a criticism, so be it, for it is the simple truth. Kept reasonably clean, the M-16A2(and all subsequent variants) is an extremely accurate and supremely reliable long range rifle that fires a sufficiently powerful round, of which you can carry a very large supply. Never in thousands of rounds fired did i ever have an M-16A2 jam on me. That's including nasty, filthy blank ammunition, which would jam the snot out of the M-16A1's. Later i carried an M-21 (essentially an M-14 built from hand picked components), and that too was a magnificent weapon, gaining weight and losing total ammo count in exchange for range and hitting power. The civilian version is called the M-1A. The Mini-14, which i think very highly of- and reccomended to nostatic, is an evolved M-14/21, the M-14/21 themselves being evolved M-1 garands. It is a legendary design in it's own right. They're not as accurate as M-16A2+, but they are IMO more resistant to fouling and filth. It's also pretty widely accepted that you have to use Ruger mags with them to get that kind of reliability. A lot of mini owners say the aftermarket mags are unreliable. The 2 i had worked with any mag, but that was 20 years ago. I cannot speak to any of the newer models produced since the late 80s. The mini can also be had in 7.62x39mm, the same cartridge the AK-47 fires. It's wood stock also makes it look more like a hunting rifle, and may not alarm neighbors or jurors so much. The one other knock i have against AR-15s, and it's a legitimate one, is that it's a very expensive rifle. But i got a great deal on mine, so that was not a factor. ![]() Last edited by m21sniper; 08-23-2009 at 04:36 PM.. |

krikey snipe, it was used. You must have been drooling or they (I) would have took $125. Then again, maybe stuff goes for more in the big city. Jim

Paid $180 for mine, with all of those accessories...new. BUT...it would definitely be worth $200 to me, used. You can buy two of these for the cost of one Sub 2000. Fun, ugly gun.

It was peanuts. I read a lot of reviews on it tonight, it seems like it's a very reliable and reasonably accurate little carbine by all accounts. The kid is thrilled with it, and i get to be the cool uncle. $200.00 well spent IMO. ![]() Someone makes a really slick and much stronger than OEM $70.00 composite stock for it that makes it look just like the Beretta Storm 9mm carbine. He's saving up his money to get it... ![]() Quote:
The scope alone is like $100.00 new. Meh, whatever, we're talking about peanuts. Last edited by m21sniper; 08-23-2009 at 08:25 PM.. |
