How much vacation time do you guys take??

I generally work 7 days a week, between my buisiness, and the rental houses, and if I am not working at one of these two places, the rest of my time involves mowing grass, keeping the household in order, and maintaining the family fleet of vehicles.
For the past 10 years or so, I usually take about a week. We may take a 4 day weekend at the beach, and a couple of days around the holidays. I am thinking of upping it to two weeks a year, and a few personal days here and there. I am self employed, and a one man operation, so no workie, no money, but I am starting to get into the mindset that life is too short to work it all away.
My partner in the rental buisiness, takes a month off every year. Basically a one week vacation every quarter. He has employees, so the money keeps flowing in while he is away.

I get 5 weeks with my regular job. Most of the time I only use 2 or 3 to actually travel or take a long trip. The other weeks I usually break up into individual days. or carry over into the next yr.

So far only used 2 weeks this yr. Plus I had 2 left over from last yr.

I am close to maxxed out on accumulated vacation (48 days). I took 4 days earlier this month but ended up working remotely for part of that. I currently have projects that can't be untended due to deadlines or I'm working on bringing in contracts to cover next year. The advice of my boss is to start taking Fri/Mon off to give 4 day weekends. That way things can still move forward at work but it provides some bit of break.

I am jealous of my production designer. When we finished the second build he left for Costa Rica for 3 weeks. Or maybe 4...he'll decide later. In the meantime I'm writing the proposals that'll cover his paycheck for the next 8 months or so. But at least I've got a gig...

I get 3 weeks..... 1 week for Oshkosh and the rest gets chewed up over several 3-4 day weekends for short family trips or an occasional day off.

you know what? i have coworkers that have more than 500 accumulated VH's. these folks dont do anything fun. amazing.

i tend to save up about a month off, and take a huge trip every so often.

my friend is a nurse, she said in all her years, she has never met anyone on the deathbed wishing they had worked more...

my state furlough days are sufficing sofar. my vacation balance is creeping up near 200 hours. i havent had to trickle them off for my 3day weekends with the mandatory furlough.

3 weeks here: I tried to take a whole week off a month ago but got a call when in Chicago to get back to the shop because all hell broke loose. So that was a one day vacation.

I usually take 1 week or so a year, but it's a few days here and there. I visit my mother twice a year, so that's usually 3 days each trip (try to coincide with a 3 day weekend like Memorial day and/or labor day. Maybe a few days around the holidays. And from time to time, I'll need a day off here or there for things that I can't do if I'm at work during the day. We have had a couple of years where we take a family vacation so I took a whole week off. Those years, I ended up taking my full two weeks (not counting the two weeks a year of corp holidays).

I rarely take a sick day. I don't get sick that often, and when I do it's usually really mild.

That is one thing that has sucked about going back into private practice. I need to force myself to take off more time.

I get 5 weeks - usually go to Europe 3 times a year and spend the rest taking care of rental property at the beach and time around the house.

I have ALWAYS taken ALL of my vacation time.

Work hard and play hard!

I take every single day. Though I did work during a few vacation days last year. I had more than I could carry over, so I got the boss to pay for hotels while I rode my bike about 2k miles through CA and visited some clients along the way. If we get this damn house purchase nailed down soon, we'll probably be able to get in another quick trip to China or Europe in November.

I get 3 weeks. I usually take a week camping at Shaver Lake, and take a few days here and there. Usually, but not this year, I travel a lot for work, and sometimes take my wife. Last two years I took here to Toronto, London, Prague, and the Bahamas for my work/her vacation. Getting to travel for vacation, is not a real pleasure for me; I do enough travel for work.

After 20 years I got 12 days in a row off (unpaid). The boss isn't very good about letting the worker taking time off (but he's getting better). Maybe I should form a union.

Seems like when we do "stay home" summers, I take about two one-week vacations, two or three long weekends, and a few random mental health days.

In years when we "go out", we usually go somewhere for three weeks, plus the long weekends and random days.

I do not have any idea how much "vacation time" I'm formally allotted, it has never been an issue.
