when did the sunday comics...get boring?
all the good funnies are gone...
you guys still reading them? |
Garfield hasn't been funny for many years. Gary Larson retired a while ago, so no more Far Side. I agree, comics suck nowadays.

Unfortunately, our Sunday paper doesn't carry "Rehabilitating Mr. Wiggles"...

Bad day... |
The LA Times had great Sunday comics. Calvin and Hobbes, the Far Side, BC and Crock, Andy Capp. Doonesbury is still around, and people still whore out Peanuts even though Schultz has been dead a while (he died New Years Eve -- the last day the final Peanuts was to run, IIRC).
I think the problem is fewer news companies syndicate that much anymore, which is how these artist-writers make their bread and butter. And the PC crap that today's media outlets let seep into their craft doesn't help either. Doonesbury has been pulled several times for its socio-political insensitivities, and Andy Capp was stopped entirely because the main character (Andy) was a boozing, womanizing, snooker-playing, chain smoking oaf on the British Dole -- a perfect character for today, IMO. Problem is that's another comic where the artist died right alongside the strip. |
Mother Goose is still pretty good.

I defy anyone to find one single Peanuts cartoon that is funny. Most overrated strip in history. Charles Schulz was an a-hole. 50 years he made Charlie Brown a loser at EVERYTHING because he thought that was funnier than having him win at something.
I still like Dilbert (except Wally). |

That's not an actual "Calvin and Hobbes" strip, of course.
"Dilbert" and "Pearls Before Swine" are okay. |
I stopped reading years ago. Far Side was outstanding. Dilbert had a good run but has been in decline for years. I can't tell you the names of any other comics currently running. I read xkcd online. I used to read PVP too, but I got frustrated after too many convoluted stories that ended up going nowhere.
As for cartoons, watch "Adult Swim" on cartoon network. These are cartoons geared towards adults. Some suck, like Squidbillies, Drinky Crow, and Family Guy, but there are some real gems, like Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers, and Harvey Birdman. |
Cartoons - the kids and I like "Spongebob", find it hilariously stupid, like "Ren and Stimpy". "Avatar" was really good, still being re-run.
