Uti?

My son is considering UTI. Any thoughts from the Pelican brain trust? www.uti.edu

A relative attended and told me it was a great experience. He went for the diesel program. He's not making big money as he lives in a small town but he's only 22 so he's got plenty of time to build a career.

Local dealership here hires plenty of them. In fact some of the mfg have programs where they cover your education and then you agree to work for them for 2 years or so.

Thing is, make sure his expectations are set properly, go out and talk to a couple of dealer prospects. Many of the greenhorns from UTI end up as glorified porters for a while, gotta pay the dues.

Seems like a good program but all the guys I know are old-salts and say they UTI guys are way too green... well of course they are.

Our local college/vo-tech school has a program funded by Toyota. I imagine it's a lot cheaper than UTI.

My brother & cousin attended UTI in Houston after their Navy stints. They've landed jobs with Audi, Ford, Saturn & Jaguar since graduating approx. 6 years ago. I've heard good things about the program, although it is expensive.

My understanding is that UTI does not issue degrees, only certificates. This might not be a problem short-term, but it could very well be a problem down the road. I'd check a trade school or 2-year-college that offers at least an Associate's Degree as part of the program, as well as the certification.

Either way, it's a lot of money - get the most you can for it.

Considering going to UTI for what program? Ranken Technical College has the best automotive programs in the nation, bar none. Degrees, not certificates. And an impeccable 100 years of unrivaled reputation to go along with it. Oh and 98% placement.
Oh and now a bachelors program to build on top of the technical degree...
Anyway don't take my word for it. Look them up.

Talewinds - For the Automotive Technology Training Program and maybe the Ford sub program. Thanks for the heads up re: Ranken Technical College. We will check them out, have never heard of them.
