NASCAR Montreal- Rubbin' is Racin' in the Rain
Usually I get a charge out of NASCAR at road courses (this event was Circuit de Gilles Villenueve) because some guys can really hoof it and do well, where others really suck butt.
Well at Montreal the rain came and the Nationwide guys got to throw on the rains and install their windshield wiper(s). The guys in front made in interesting and fun to watch (poor Marcos Ambrose blowing it at the final turn by bunny-hopping the big turtle was painful to watch) but the dishpits in the back just made it embarrassing for NASCAR. Multi-car smash-'em-ups at every restart following the mandatory 5 min. stop for rain setup change were at first funny, but then downright annoying. It took them an hour to finish the final 13 laps!!! Anybody else see this race/bumper car event on ESPN2 yesterday?

Have it on the DVR - Will watch sometime this week. I agree, Nascar road courses are worth the time. Sounds like a good one to see.

It was painful to watch, just got so drawn out. I finally went out and cooked dinner and said "screw it". The guys just wanted to wreck cars, looked more like a demolition derby!
What a waste. ALMS race at Mosport was much better. |

No worries - I actually appreciate it. It sounds like the race went longer than my DVR recorded it? I'm still a few days from having time to watch and won't remember what you said.......Had to watch F1 at Spa and the Indy Superbike race B4 Nascar!!

That was probably one of the best NASCAR races I've ever seen. It put any "super speedway" type U.S. race to complete shame. It was cool seeing Cup drivers dicing it up on a road course. A race won on the last corner - nothing's better.
Did you catch that interview with one of the NASCAR bigwigs who said there may be a chance NASCAR Cup series cars may soon race in the rain...w/wipers? It's really how they should race NASCAR in the states - 1/3 road courses, 1/3 short track, 1/3 super speedway.

Yeah, I heard Rusty Wallace talking with Mike Helton about the potential for Cup cars to use the rains. Helton said the lesser downforce of the Cup cars makes them reluctant to do it. But I think you're right that it's a direction they should go. And yes, more road courses would be fine by me! I love watching them at Sears Point/Infineon since there are a number of places there that are ripe for braking contests and side by side racing.

Especially in person! First time I've ever been to a race, actually, first time I've ever been to a track as a spectator! Wow, what a blast!
