Ducati Monster Colour Therapy....dear lord...

Page takes a moment to load:

http://www.monster.ducati.com/monsterart/colour_therapy_en.html

As if they haven't KILLED the Monster badly enough with the horrific new design. I was in Ducati Seattle yesterday trying to find one thing I liked about the bike. Nope. Its an F*ing travesty. Plastic panels over the actual gas tank so you can change your bikes color like you change your nail polish? The monster has jumped the shark.

A monster should be just that. They didn't call it the monster for no reason. It was raw, with the mechanicals exposed. Not some freaking plastic japcycle.

Agreed--I visited the local "independently owned non-Japanese sport bike shop" here 2 weeks ago and almost tossed my cookies when I got an eyeful of the new Monster.

I spent my time over by the Triumph 675s.

it appears to be a marketing strategy to make all current owners step up to the more expensive models by convincing them that monsters are now chick bikes.

Waaa, waaa, waaa, I like my '09 Red Monster just fine. Not to mention it has more horsepower than the old 800 and also better suspension and brakes.

So, were you full of a Petite Syrah, a Pinot Noir, or perhaps a Cab Merlot when you visited DOS?

HardDrive or the designer?

So, I was heading into town for our monthly VME (Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts) meeting, and I figured I might as well stop in at DOS. Needed some brake pads for the Super Sport anyway.

The bikes that tug at my heart strings are the Sport Classics. The sportier one, with the old style bullet fairing - not the GT model - could easily be my next bike. Why mess around with this new Gayster with the pink and purple plastic, when such beautiful, honest (and manly) bikes are sitting right next to them?

Alas, no more Paul Smart replicas, but this is the one I was thinking of. I could live quite happily with one of these:

Saw that beast sitting there. Its nice. Damn agressive bar position though, and you can't really do anything about it because the supports for the fairing would interfer with bar risers.

For the record, my best internet rants are usually fueled by Balvenie, not merlot.
