Yeah, I don't do the tech forums much. Sorry for the re-post. But I like it anyway. Hope the OT Pelicans enjoy....

Big Ed 09-02-2009 10:09 AM

Oooh, I like those seats.

Z-man 09-02-2009 10:11 AM

Z-man approves. :)

Zef 09-02-2009 10:15 AM

Water cooled....nahhhhh...!

Geronimo '74 09-02-2009 10:30 AM

Those seats are indeed beautiful.

One of (if not) the most tired shapes in automotive history.

Antagonistic, if not trollish.

It's a beautiful shape to me, and quintessentially Porsche.
I like the 997, and most of its variants. I like elements of the 'Sport Classic' shown here.
I'd love to see the wheels produced in volume.

Racerbvd 09-02-2009 12:42 PM

I like it!!!!!!

I'll be sure to call you a troll next time you voice your opinion that you don't like something here. Don't be so boorish and close minded.

The shape and configuration is quintessentially Volkswagen Beetle, btw.

Seriously, it's time for some NEW IDEAS at Porsche. It's frankly no wonder they went bankrupt, they haven't had an exciting NEW sports car design in decades. Not since the 944/928.

Ferrari long ago let the 308 die with grace. Lambo long ago let the Countach die with grace, and replaced them with exciting new SHAPES and designs.

PORSCHE IT IS TIME TO LET GO OF THE 70 YEAR OLD VW BEETLE INSPIRED 911.

Then again, if their next sports car design is as lame and uninspiring as the Panamera or the Cayenne.......

EDIT: I do like the Carerra GT. It's a shame Porsche couldn't make a much cheaper version of that with conventional sheet metal and a turbo charged flat 6 for about $150,000.00....they would sell tons of them.

EDIT II: I do like the boxster too, i guess that certainly counts as a new design(though many of you seem convinced it's for gays only. ;))

I guess it is, since people have been saying the 911 was tired since the day the internet was invented. Now, 20 years later, and Porsche is still introducing slightly altered versions of the same old tired 70+ year old VW design.

Schumi 09-02-2009 12:46 PM

Now if they made it the size of a 993, with that look and those wheels...

instant classic.

dd74 09-02-2009 01:07 PM

That's a fine looking car. It's good to see Porsche getting aggressive with its styling.

Sniper - tired shapes fall more in line with your 928. Front engine, rear drive GT cars have been around in thousands of variants, including the (gasp!) Miata.

The 911, because it hasn't changed much in shape, remains classic. Comparing it to a Beetle stylistically (let me guess, because both are rear engined) is ridiculous.

targa911S 09-02-2009 01:07 PM

A perfect car for America. An over weight out, of shape, fat boy of it's former self. I'll bet those seats are wider for big asses.

svandamme 09-02-2009 01:07 PM

i can't get my head around those front Fuch like wheels.
The heart of that rim sticks out way to much.

I do realize that that it's impossible to have a deep look on a modern sports car, but that doesn't change the fact that it just does not look right to me...It's like a kids toy car with plastic molded fuchs like wheels on it.
They did try and get some kind of lip on the wheel, unlike say the R16J6 fuchs , that had a squared off flat lip... and looked ugly... but the heart sticks out, and protrudes, completely cancelling the effect of the lip...

love the interior though... few cars these days have a brown interior.. let alone something that looks that good... maybe they will also bring back the old school seventies colors for the exterior of their cars...

The 911 has always- always- had strong VW beetle styling cues. Plus the configuration is identical. IOW, it is a flat out Beetle derivative. You know, same designer and all....

Porsche haters refer to them as such. (and Porsche luddites get super annoyed because the criticism is wholly based in fact)

True, to an extent (not out of shape, frat boy, etc). But I bet if one the new 2010's hit my old car with me in it, I'd be on the rack asking for some new organs.

"Bigger" is a sign of where we are in motoring.

svandamme 09-02-2009 01:11 PM

aw, just noticed the roof has a dent in it...

You can call me a troll when I go on a classic Porsche 911 site and blast a classic Porsche 911. You are trolling (fishing) for an arguement with that kind of comment. Classic troll.

It's not about your entitlement to your opinion (everyone has one) but the way in which you conduct yourself when sharing it.
