PETA, WWF, ALF, ELF...they are all the same people who just shuffle money around so that one organization looks "legitimate" while another runs their terrorist operations.

Seahawk 09-03-2009 10:47 AM

That simply cannot be a genuine ad, it simply can't.

That is beyond tasteless.

bivenator 09-03-2009 10:47 AM

You mean that the WWF is not involved with rasslin. I just sent them 200$ for Wrestlemania XXVIIX.

lowyder993s 09-03-2009 10:48 AM

Makes me glad to know I'm on the other side of the argument as a hunter and conservationist.

widgeon13 09-03-2009 10:52 AM

Pretty absurd but then consider the source. Words can't express my complete disgust.

dhoward 09-03-2009 10:52 AM

Tsunamis don't have religous beliefs....
What's their point?

Rikao4 09-03-2009 10:55 AM

wave was caused by an earthfart..
tasteless..yes!
why mention 100 X compared to 9/11..
you want $ for the Panda or Louie ?..
a guess here..
most of their $ comes from Americans..
beyond dumb..

Rika

What the hell are they trying to say with this ad? It makes no sense. Is donating to the WWF somehow going to stop tsunami, earthquakes, tornados? WTF?

I like edgy ads if there is a point to it, but I don't get this one.

The WWF says it never approved the ad, issuing a press release to assure critics that it rejected the ad proposal, which was done by Brazilian design firm DDB Brasil.

“WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication," said a statement issued by the World Wildlife Fund on Tuesday.

HardDrive 09-03-2009 11:02 AM

Ah, seems to be a little more to the story....

http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2009/09/911-was-nothing-according-to-new-wwf-ad.html

Evidently it looks like someone in WWF in Brazil did approve the ad. Can't wait to hear the details.

THE TSUNAMI KILLED 100 TIMES MORE PEOPLE THAN 9/11.
The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it. www.wwf.org

actually they kinda have a point once you read the text of the ad

Their point can be made thousands of other ways rather than attaching that text to that picture.

Or maybe you can't imagine being someone who lost a family member on 9/11/2001 and seeing that ad.

Unfortunately it is.

It's beyond tasteless. It shows a disconnect with reality and a fanaticism that has blinded the people in that organization to reality.

masraum 09-03-2009 11:37 AM

Whomever created the ad is a whacko. That's not apples to oranges, it's apples to zebras.

The Gaijin 09-03-2009 11:38 AM

A creative type with some photo-shop program and a free afternoon.. Then of course he e-mails it to someone and the cat is out of the bag.

It make no sense anyway. WWF mission is to protect endangered wildlife. How many humans die of whatever cause has nothing to do with their mission.

I was one block away on 9/11 and friends and colleagues. To dignify this with a second thought is not going to happen.

onlycafe 09-03-2009 02:44 PM

if good taste is timeless what about this?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252017836.jpg

that tag line was actually pitched to panasonic years ago, they declined.
as the comics would say about the trade tower ad.........."too soon."

john70t 09-03-2009 04:17 PM

Tasteless. But accurate, and the probably the only way Americans could possibly digest the reality of information.

-Yes, it's true: The last remaining Amazon rainforests are being slashed-and-burned at an expotential rate.
The area is know to contain most of the genetic diversity on earth. Diversity that can be used scientifically for research by future generations....like your children or grand-children.

-Yes, it's true: The majority of remaining fish in the oceans are becoming scarce. Even Cod supplies, once considered a throw-back" species, is now limited.
Go ahead and find out what decent tuna for sushi costs on the main Tokyo market.

-Yes, it's true: that without a continuous food supply, humans(like rats) will turn on one another.

Care to refute any of the above?
To keep this out of PARF, we won't talk about "purposfuly destroying God's creations"......

I read that since 1960 the number of people who have died of terrorism in the US was about 5,000 (largely skewed towards 2001). The number of people who die in car crashes each year is about 40,000. It's hard for people to interpret numbers without some context. I concur that ad was tacky though.

I think "Papa-Joe-the bear" Stalin said: "A single death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic."
Smart quote...from someone who killed 20+ million of his own east-europeans.
